cylinder head gasket 0,5mm thicker

Post by Carl » Wed Feb 05, 2003 11:46 am

Hi Guys!

anyone interested in cylinder head gaskets which are 0,5mm thicker than the originals? They come from the Audi Supplier and i must order them this afternoon. Price is 50 euros per piece. Adds more horsepower because more pressure for the turbos is possible -> less compression! no ecu remapping necessary since the motronic is regulating the power (i was told) please email me at info@bauwerk24.de if interested latest this afternoon! Thanks!

Is it not the case that lowering the compression in the engine, while leaving everything else standard, will simply mean the turbos have to work harder more of the time for little benefit?

Is it not also true that you will increase "lag" at lower RPM?

I thought the benefits of lowering compression only really came into their own when running higher flow turbos and exhausts, with remaps to suit. Help anyone?

Let me see.... Andy is having the Shakti on lines installed? Is there enough space under that short bonnet!

You're are right Tim, there may be a small advantage lowering the CR, especially as you're increasing the engine displacement slightly, but the best effect is with the bigger turbos (or highly modified K04's ) and modified heads.

Shakti - there again bet it works

Well Andy, the more I try and read up and learn about modifying highly strung turbocharged engines, the less I think I know!

It really does seem to be a black art. Credit to you mate for leading the way with the RS4.

Thanks Tim

Wouldn't say I was leading the way, just trying to develop good results that aren't available over and above what I've already got.

I mean Sportec only go to 475bhp , and after that it's MTM or Digitech etc, just nothing in the UK unless you investigate, understand and ask "can you do this for me mate?" If you don't understand what you are asking for it normally ends up in tears, and I think we have all experienced this at some stage with cars

Let's just hope this next three weeks result in something special, well over the 500bhp mark, that is reliable and fast on street or track. Also making all the info available to everyone else is equally important - good and bad points, so we can all enjoy and share the experience

Take what the other tuners have done and never be happy - always try and find ways to improve, either cooling, fuelling, air charge, drivetrain etc etc. All of them can be improved with tuning techniques used on similar, but older engines, that in some cases can reach 1000+bhp It's just that current Audi tuners (and I'm not criticising here) only look at the peripheral components for improvement, but then match them to the standard internals. Just imagine what could be achieved if you looked at modifying the whole lot - cranks, conrods, floating pins, pistons, heads, camshafts, valves, injection, hybrid turbos (not KKK,K04 or K016's), front mounted IC's, water injection and a sequential box......... Skyline guys R32/33/34's are doing just this, but spending £30k to £70k on engine and box alone..... unfortunately we are around 8 years behind these guys (and about £50k ) and have a lot still to learn.

Sorry for going on, but at least you know what I'm looking for over the coming months Hope you all enjoy the story as it unfolds

Andy I also would like to thank you for your wisdom

I have leanrt alot from you and glad you have the expendable income to help us all gain exerience and knowledge

I would really lik eyou to meet Chris at G force, I am sure the guys who came to the rolling road would agree this guy told us things that were really useful

He has tried to tune skylines up etc

And from his wealth of experience he could probably help your cause

Lets see how AmD get on in the next couple of weeks

We wish you all the best and look forward to seeing your results, both good and bad

thanks
