gearbox problem

Post by mbedford » Sun Oct 25, 2009 9:39 pm

Had a new gearbox fitted in march {the second one in a six month period} and it's failed. It was in tiptronic mode but the dash display kept on flitting between tip and auto mode and the box would change up and down for apparently no reason. I wasn't driving hard at all, just running at a constant 50mph and on slowing down for a roundabout the car just coasted. All the auto functions lit up at once on the dash, and the car had no drive. After a few seconds the car lurched a bit and I managed to crawl round the roundabout in first gear. A scan revealed fault code 17090, transmission range sensor f125:implausable signal:P0706.
Shouldn't the F125 switch be a new one on this replacement gearbox? If it is then surely the warranty should cover this?
Any advise would be much appreciated as I'm getting truely sick of this car, it's the most badly developed, unreliable piece of crap I've ever had the misfortune to own...It just shouldn't be like this.

This may just be a sensor fault rather than an actual gearbox fault. These sensors are not unknown to fail!

Doesn't sound like a "classic" box failure. Sounds like the F125. The connector corrodes and causes all sorts of problems.

Good link. That's very handy to know.
