How'd the barge stand up to the track? Handling any good in the wet?
I'd have to say I was disappointed with the handling on greasy corners- I felt the car sliding out several times but that may well have been me being inept rather than the car. I slid almost completely off on the first corner after the pits and never really recovered my confidence after that.
I think I'd probably kill myself (or poop myself) if I got let loose on a track...
At one stage I thought I was going to do both

That's what prompted the question - I know from experience that slippy conditions can create a lot of understeer, and I wondered how much of an impact it had on the track. My personal opinion on the P Zeros was that they were a great dry/warm tyre but terrible in the cold. What tyres were you running on?

At least the track's a better place to have a brown-trouser moment than the road! Do you thikn you're better equipped to handle the RS 6 in adverse conditions, having had the experience? Have you thought about the Audi Driving Experience? It looks like a good way to learn how to handle the 2-tonne monster.

TBH I think it taught me that despite all the electronic driving aids the car is only as safe as the driver- pretty obvious really but it was a sharp reminder that I am:
a:) not infallible and
b:) not immortal
I was running Conti SportContact 2's but I don't know if that helped or hindered as they are the only tyres I've had.
I will probably do the Audi Driving Experience- particularly as I would love to do another trackday but with a bit more knowledge this time

I seem to remember a certain RS3 going straight on rather than around a bend

On my first lap I got sideways turning left into the first chicane and did not manage to get it pointing the right way until the uphill exit. Looks pretty good on the video actually

Its the most fun I've had on a trackday and all because it was so slippery. Let's have another

I'm afraid auto trans are no good for the track, cannot hold gear.... You need a manual box, otherwise it will change mid-corner (not a nice experance)

Would agree with that normally Chubby, but the RS6 has lateral G force sensors which, if necessary parameters have been met will instruct the box to hold a gear through a corner.

I did for a couple of laps and with a bit of hindsight blah,blah,blah....- I think my problem was that I pushed too hard too soon, had my difference of opinion with Old Hall Corner and then did'nt spend enough time trackside to regain confidence and get my skill level up. I went out about 5 more times and did maximum 3 laps each go. I was quite comfortable getting the right line but I had what was apparently the classic beginners' habit of going into the corners too fast, correcting speed whilst cornering and exiting too slow.
Determined to do better next time

I was running Conti SportContact 2's
That's what I've got on now & I reckon they're alright normally. Slight tendency to slip a lot if the radial grooves get filled with mud and crap, which happened to me recently after pulling over onto a wet verge on a narrow backroad track to let somebody pass the other way. Went round the next big corner and got the back end out further than I wanted.

I'm going to ask my dealer about the Experience as he always promised me he'd get me on some driving days, and apart form the A8 pre-launch at Millbrook, I've not had a sniff. I like the hint that after the Experience you can go and do the one in Finland etc.

I have been told by Kim that you can get a chip to hold it in gear.

Unfortunatly, this does not happen to be fitted to most RS6's. I drove one for a while before buying the 4, if it had a manual box I would have bought it.

IMHO For touring at high speed nothing will catch it, for track days most will!!!.

So its not a race, it a high pi**ing contest, yes Steve your cosworth car is probally quicker than the old RS4, is that what you want to here? Feel better now.

Or maybe its a bigger boys have better toys, can I bring my bike, 0-60mph under 3, 212mph top speed 0-100mph-0 11sec cost just under £5k, that if you want to talk about speed vs cost.

What does sound better is two identical cars one track winner takes all, or one track same car fastest takes all.

I would choose the second option myself as I'm getting to old to race, two flying laps are about all my old body can take, but it sounds like you have something to prove to your mates, so lets see if we can get it sorted for early next year.

Up for it?
