C5 RS6 suspension

Post by GTR34 » Mon Oct 19, 2009 1:26 pm

I'm new to C5 RS6 ownership, so please excuse any stupid questions as I'm still learning!

I don't like the HR coilover kit on my car and fancy changing it to something not so harsh and hard esspecially on bumpy uneven tarmac surfaces.

Assuming that I will end up binning the HR stuff, can anyone recommend a good sus set up that isn't so unforgiving but will improve the cars handling; something with adjustable damper control woule be good, if there is such a thing?

Maybe even refit the DRC stuff if it was realiable in it's latest form?

Thanks in advance....

Mark.

Hi Mark I've just bought a 53 plate RS6 with fully adjustable BILSTEIN suspension all I can say is wow even at 160 mph the car feels totally stable and at slow speeds there is no crashing over bumps, although speed humps have to be taken very slowly. cheers mate Tony ...

What tyre pressure are you running? The advantage of KW/Bilstein setup is that they are adjustable (if not fully). KW v3 has more options (height, bump & rebound) but is harder to setup and is still firm. If you dial it down then it's easy to go too far and end up with a car that just isn't an RS anymore (body roll, rocking when stopping etc). Uprated Anti Roll bars help, but they are 1.8 tonne cars after all. The biggest difference I found was is tyre pressure, although I know at least one person who has fitted 18" alloys. DRC was nearly as firm but was unreliable for a daily driver.

Even the latest DRC fixes seem to only be as good as the tech who did it. :?

Mine is going to have Bilsteins B16's (PSS9) fitted tomorrow, they are the most expensive kit but unlike the KW v3's can be adjusted faily easily when fitted to the car.

So if you are not sure of set up and want to be able to change a easily for track/road set up then these are probably the best option.

If you do a search on the Forum you will see positive and negative coments for H&R/KW/bilsetin's. However all seem to be far superior to DRC :-)
