Its been for sale for over a year, there must be something wrong with it, the pictures suggest its seen paint at some point, the back bumper should have black inserts, am i correct? just noticed that there. Thats another no go then.

What's wrong with the 86K one from Nick J at 14,995? It's got Sat nav plus TV and is in your price range. No sunroof though.

Is that the avus rs4 from nj you are talking about? That was up for £18k? Thats alot! I just checked his website and its gone. It seems to take ages for dealers to shift their rs4 are there any reasonf for this?

I would say so, only reason you would buy from a dealer would be to get warrenty and im sure most if not all charge more for their cars and also charge for the warrenty so not much point using them to be honest. I'll stick to private sales unless i can get a very good deal from a dealer, judging by some of the prices thats unlikely.

What about this private one?

Well specced and has new tyres and pads/discs all around which is not a bad way to start RS ownership/

I have tried calling about that one, but no answer and no call back, it does look nice and seems well spec'd and like you say i'd be starting on a good note.

Do the rs's chew through discs, pads and tyres like say an impreza or does it depend on how it is driven. My old impreza just liked to chew everything, it was never far from a garage.

im not sure many owners would be willing to take their cars for a health check for the purchaser or allow one to be done before purchase. so is there something like a checklist of things to inspect when viewing an rs4? or just inspect it like any other car?

Warranty is one of many reasons for buying from a dealer.

If you consider the specialists who have several for sale, they will have developed the ability to identify a good (or bad) one, will enable you to compare several back-to-back and might be able to make alterations to the car as part of the deal. They could also take your car as trade-in and may offer competetive finance.

If it later transpires that something is seriously amiss with the car (cut and shut, false identity, hidden accident damage, etc) then a private seller might be difficult to deal with.

A receipt for a private sale will probably state "sold as seen" ....

if a seller is not willing to have his car health-checked in my opinion you should walk away. the guy from whom i purchased my car drove all the way from yorkshire to mrc to allow me to have it checked over - and i can assure you he was not short of a few quid so he could have easily rejected my request.

i would never touch a car like the rs without a specialist inspection.

Is all of what you have said worth the dealer premium? The only real reason to buy from a dealer in my opinion is that you may have some comeback, but im sure most of them will make it as difficult as possible for the disgruntled party involved.
