Brake light problem

Post by Carps » Wed Dec 03, 2003 8:19 pm

A friend has a problem with his van (VW Transporter, 1994).
Basically it is the brake lights.
With the ignition off, the brake lights work as expected - ie, press the brake pedal and the lights come on
However, as soon as you turn the ignition on the brake lights come on and stay on, regardless of what you do with the pedal All other lights function normally.

Anyone got any ideas where to look ?

I'm defintely no electrical expert I fix most mechanical things but electrics I generally stay well clear off However, in the past I've seen some weird things due to poor connections particularly rear lights caused by poor earth connections but the symtoms are faded lights or brake lights that flash with the indicators.

Simply put, check as many of the obvious earth and electrical connections possible.

Don't be put off if they don't look rusty or furry check them for tightness.

I hope this helps

Great minds...
That was my first step. All the earths are fine.

I think I am going to have to strip it all down at the weekend
