Post by victor2vt » Sat Sep 26, 2009 4:07 pm

Used to do karting years ago, hate to think what the costs are now ?

Interested what anyone may be racing at the moment ?

Yes, I compete in Hillclimbs and Sprints (member of MAC and HSA) and have been involved in this for the last 4 years or so. Came first in class twice in the last 2 seasons but this yea I did not enter the Championship as it was an added overhead with (I thought) no advantage as I dont compete in every venue in that championship around the country - not enough weekends in a year plus I have other stuff to do LoL) well it seems that you very easily get balloted out due to eherm "oversubscription to the event" when you havent forked out the additional few hundred quid to keep them happy!... thus I havent been competing tooo much this year. In terms of costs I would have to dig out some entry forms etc... but I own 50% of a dual drive car with an ex colleague/good friend who has since retired..so he gets chance to compete more than I do.

Its a 1970 MGBGT 2 litre Peter Burgess race engine..bout 150bhp, weighs in at approx 800kg (stripped out/lightened panels etc) - its a cracker.

I will fill the gaps in when I dig out the paperwork:-

Licence....
Event entry....
Race Gear (lid FIA suit n boots)....
championship entry
MAC and HSA membership
then of course the car plus running costs...... (divided by 2)

its a great alternative to karting and a nice entry into motorsport as you can take it as serious or lightly as you like without being frowned upon by competitors and spectators (all sorts enter Hillclimbs and sprints) - plus my bills are split in 2 :D

MG pic is on here me thinks http://www.hillclimbandsprint.co.uk/gallery30.asp

and jeez this looks slow but when you are flying up there without touching the brakes - belive me it aint!

Mk 2 Golf Championship with the 750mc. Some of the closest tin -top racing I've done in the past 12 years, and very good value for money, I love it.
