B5 Corrosion? Warranty claim.....

Post by EuroSag » Mon Sep 21, 2009 8:00 pm

I know it's a common problem, but my B5 is starting to show signs of corrosion along the boot lock strip and also the rear door sail trims.

As we all know, it's supposed to have a 12yr anti-corrosion warranty, so what do you think my chances are?

BTW, the car has never had a single bit of paint since leaving the factory.

Had a similar problem a few years ago with an M3 and BMW got it sorted out straight away with no quibbles or anything. Even fixed a small blemish (causd by me) as a good will gesture.

Hmmm, sounds a bit negative.

Are they likely to be a bunch of jockstraps? Am I likely to have to instruct lawyers? Are they going to try and argue that these bits aren't part of the bodywork but rather, bits of trim?

Dont know, but I know I got less than an enthusiatic chappy from Audi once, so left it...
I think you should stick to your guns and get them to rectify the fault. TRhats why they have the warranty after all.

Don't worry, I've dealt with these pr1cks before..... in the early days of the old bendy wheels fiasco, so know the sort of BS to expect.

They are classed as trims and not part of the body. You'll be very lucky if you get them done under warranty

Keep us posted.

I remember the coversation I had with the Audi 'bodywork specialist' going along the lines of, "Yes sir, those blisters are zinc inclusions, and not covered by the warranty", "basically if it rusts from the inside out, that is covered"

Good luck with it though

They are blisters and there's no broken paint, so I'm guessing it's coming from inside out..... but I do know a really good bodyshop (official Porsche and Ferrari approved) - so I might go and have a chat with them first and maybe try and get something in writing from them in readiness.

I have the same problem with the trim. But Audi state its only trim and does not fall intoo the 12 year warranty as it only covers bodywork and not trim. Let me know how you get on

I have tried always to get these replaced under warranty - I did succeed with the tailgate trim but the car was under 3 years old at that time, the rear door corner pieces in gloss black are as has been said before "trim pieces" so as they are not the "body" are not covered. They are only £30 each to buy - only problem is the £300 labour bill to fit them

If you do a search I think someone has posted a DIY version of how to do the repair

300 GBP to fit these 2 small triangles????

Crazy. My mechanic replaced them within 40 minutes for around 10 GBP.

I've got an S4 which had this problem a few years back. I phoned Audi head quaters, who told me to take it to my nearest audi main dealer to get it checked out. After a bit of argy bargy and a few choice words they seen where i was coming from and i got it repaired under the 12yr anti corrosion warranty. Mine was exactly the same blistered from the inside out, no broken paint etc....It's got to be worth a go, your going to get it fixed anyway so you have nothing to lose :)
Hmmm, its fast but is it fast enough!!!

Well I had mine done as it was bubbling on the tail boot lock and guess what?

Audi UK and local dealer said "feck off it's not part of the bodywork", as you can imagine I wasn't best pleased.

In the end I spoke to the stealer and they agreed to pay 70% towards the parts and labour and I chipped in the rest. It cost me about 70 notes.

If you want the name of the bloke then let me know and you can use my stealer for the work.

It's funny how some people have had it done under warranty free of charge and other's have had no joy. Then there's Contigo who had to pay part way. So Contigo if they agreed to 70% then ultimately they are admitting liability under the corrosion warranty...I would of squeezed them for the %100  At least you got something out of them.....
