First service...OMG...how much ?? DRC....

Post by tb » Thu Sep 17, 2009 6:00 pm

Just dropped my 2003 RS6 into a London Audi garage, having bought it a year ago...of course, I was dumb and the Tesco warranty I bought a year ago JUST ran out a couple of days before I put it in...

Just got quoted £7500 to service the car....this included £2840 for front shocks and £1610 for rear shocks, said they were leaking and should really be fixed (though passed MOT). So the best part of £4500 to fix them??? I guess this is the infamous DRC...

So anyone got any ideas what I should do? other than not doing it and then trying to sell the car back to some unsuspecting punter...

if you're interested, here's my other quotes for bits needing done:

£237 for Drive Shaft Joint Gater (was split)
£291 for tyres (each)
£511 for Rear transfer gearbox (leaking)
£434 for 2 rear parking sensors (never worked since I bought it)
£35 for tyre maintenance system (out of date)
£112 for brake fluid service
£45 for wiper blades
£287 for GPS Aerial (never picked up satellites from the day I got it).

Help !? Live central london, just paranoid about getting ripped off by a main dealer.

Give MRC a call! You are out of warranty, so no problem re Audi, and get them to quote for service and all the bits plus replace suspension with Bilstein or similar.

Even if you have to take a day off work it will save you a packet.

Otherwize ditto with Grizz only it's a longer drive

£434 for parking sensors? Jeesh. £90 in Audi parts for both, get some paint and fit them yourself. Not that hard!
£4500 for DRC is stupidly expensive.
£292 for rubber is well over the odds, for £600 you could get all 4 done, eh Dave?

Just get the lot sorted by either MRC (Banbury) or Unit20 (Wirral), they actually know what they are doing with the RS6's. ;)

Hope this helps,

Grant

as you are out of warranty, pls take my advice AND STAY AWAY FROM AUDI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

take it to an trusted independant, but advisably specialists such as MRC, based in Banbury or Unit 20 which is further north near Liverpool. FYI, Unit 20 can provide a flat bed truck to collect your car if you dont mind being without it for a while, which living in central london may not be an issue for you.

DRC is a simple solution, DUMP it - a new set up will cost you circa £1.5k, painful but necessary evil
Tyres, www.camskill.co.uk, get yourself some Vredersteins 255/35/19, £291 will get you both, then take it to a tyre fitter to wack on for a score

I could on but not that technical myself, but please DONT GIVE THOSE ROBBING B@STARDS A PENNY and get it all sorted by someone in the know

Ditto to everything that has been said here

Audi will try to dick you...Only a warranty can act as a rubber (and lube) to ease the experience

No warranty - stay away from 'em and see an independant...

MRC or Unit 20.

With the size of that potential bill, it would be worth it travelling to Timbuktu!

Thats a great post... can't believe that dealers provide such comical quotes, as if anyone in their right mind would pay it. I suppose they may as well have a go just incase some muppet does.

go to a good independant, 3 or 4 reccomended on here.

no but I did put it in Docklands before and just felt I was getting ripped (I got a tyre done), also I did try and buy a second-hand one last year from Docklands, they wanted 27k, I offered 23k, we didn;t get closer than 23/26.5k...that was for a pristine 30,000 miles 2003 with warranty, ended up paying 15,750 for not quite so pristine 60,000 miles 2003 without warranty...didn't seem worth £10k just to have unscuffed wheels that I'd scuff anyway and an Audi warranty!

Guess I'll do enough to get MOT done and stick it into a specialist...yes I did feel like I was being robbed, even more annoying was it's been with them for 8 days before I finally call up myself to get the prices, rude c*nts didn't even call me (I barely use the car so don't care if I've not got it for a while). Money not the problem really, just the principal...hate being ripped off. All just seemed crazy expensive, esp for a car that didn't actually feel it had anything wrong with it...though I am a bit of a dumbass cos I only just found I'd been driving it without an MOT since January, which I'm told means your insurance doesn't apply....doh!

I was quoted £2800 for the whole DRC by Audi Southampton. £4500 is just stupid money. Is it less than 6 years old, full Audi Servicing???? If so, you still qualify for the Audi goodwill policy to get them replaced FOC!!! In my oppinion it sounds like the labour rate is the killer here not the parts. What is their hourly rate £150/hour or something???? :-O

oh bugger!!! Thats a shame. In that case fully agree with the comments on here about taking to Unit 20 or MRC and get it sorted. £7500 seems unreal!!!! If the independants are too far to travel and you want to stay with Audi then there are a couple (maybe 3 or 4 at most unfortunately) of very good dealers still about. Camberley Audi is one I have used and will continue to. Have a look on the posts in this forum and you will find the good and the bad ones!!!

When mine failed (seems to be quite common), I replaced it myself with one that I got from eBay.. for a tenner.

It's cheaper to just keep reversing into stuff.

Fit a towbar and reverse with Abandon!

front sensors fail, fit a Bull bar and, well, Bull with Abandon!

I would like to see bull bars on the front of a Six.

I replaced some on a BMW Touring I had. I'm sure I got a whole set on eBay for about £100 as I didnt know which were faulty so just replaced the lot. Bit fiddly to get at I seem to remember. Had to lie on my back and reach right up behind the rear bumper where all the mud and stuff collects over the years. Not sure how difficult it is on a 6 though.
