Seems like the seals have gone?
No noises or clonks, where can I get new seals put in from?
Or would it be better to buy another diff?
Can i get this one reconditioned?
Is the rs4 s4 rear diff the same?
Regards
Faz
Rear diff leaking oil, what to do?
RE: Rear diff leaking oil, what to do?
From what I was told S4 diff is different than RS4 one.
I am in similar boat but I also have some noises at around 60 mph when driving with constant speed.
Stealers ask CRAZY money for new I guess I will go with ebay.

Just replace the seals, undo driveshafts and remove output pinion shafts (bolt in center) fit new seals.
New diff assy 2380 Euros on etka.
There is one diff listed for an RS4 and about five for an S4 one of which is the same part number as an RS4 Pt No-01H500040L

If I understood correctly about the problem, just the gaskets replacement is maybe a 2-2.5hrs work time (for both at rear, right side is easier). Costs 1/10.
Somebody with more knowledge
maybe could explain why to go for new diff as it is not so apparent from problem description...
