Viewed an RS4 at the weekend

Post by no_RS » Wed Sep 09, 2009 8:03 pm

Hi,

I went and looked at a B5 RS4 70k miles on a 51 plate at the weekend and noticed a few issues with the car and would like some advice,

1. Has wet carpet in passenger front footwell.
2. There are angle grinder cut marks in the boot floor! :o
3. The brakes front and rear look in poor condition, corroded discs and the front calipers appeared to have been painted in what looks like hammerite, how much to replace discs and pads?
4. You can see paint from a re-spray behind the fuel filler cap where the rear quarter has been re-painted - how do I assess what may have been done. Car was de-badged but badges have been put on - the wrong side.
5. Exhaust bracket missing just in front of rear silencers OEM exhaust.
6. Exhaust Flexi-joint behind gearbox starting to breakup.
7. Interior pretty good but trim inside on near side passenger B Pillar is cracked near the roof lining, looks like someone damaged it getting it off, why? Car has a sun roof.

My gut feeling is walk away but would like any opinions.

Thanks

Pete

There a mine field from what I've seen! :(

wet carpet probably overflowing scuttle panel area, only needs cleaning out!

Grinder marks point to severe body work, probably done badly! :(

brakes around 1k for full replace from vag parts, diy, 1.5k from dealers afaik

no excuse for no.4 bad/cheap body repair! :(

exhaust hanger common fault as is flexible joint wiremesh, no real worry!

I wouldn't walk away I'd sprint like that reet fast geezer from the olimpics!! Lol

what coulour is it?

It's certainly not priced at the lower end of the market, they want top money £18k for it. The grinder marks are really strange because I couldn't see any other evidence of work being carried out and all the panels lined up and looked okay, just a really strange place for this sort of damage. I'm really looking for a mint standard example and this is the second one I have looked at, the first was the noggy blue one in Ascot earlier this year (eyeball bought that one) so I'm not in a hurry.

Funnily enough this car had been serviced by him in the past, not in a hurry on this one as I have a B7 S4 to keep me amused. I keep seeing various RS models on my travels and it's getting frustrating as I realise my S4 is in the car park at work and i'm in a diesel insignia YUK!

This week I have seen an Avus B5 RS4, a sprint blue B7 RS4 and an S5 (yawn) and a C6 RS6.

Why didn't you buy eyeball's car?

there's only 1 51 reg with sunroof for £17995 for sale

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/ww ... gLetter=51

I'd seriously run a mile from anything with grinder marks in boot, especially at £18k!!!

Just be careful with your reply to that one no RS!!lol. I'm glad you didnt buy her after all cos I'm lovin every minute of owning her. Mine needed a bit of tlc and to be honest she's really looking nice now. I even fitted my armrest this afternoon.yey!! I've been dying to fit one since I bought her.
I wish you luck with your hunt and like you say your not in a rush and thats the best position to be in but with the list you've got there she's way out on price.

Hey...welcome back phil...or have you sneaked off for a bit???!! I hope you had a great time mate? Yes I've been dying to fit one to her and I must admit the one I won on ebay is like brand new not a mark anywhere so really chuffed and makes the driving so much more relaxed. I sound like a right tart.lol I think it's a phatbox next. Been looking at the rns e units but I'm not convinced on the looks of the fitment.

Hmm, reason for pulling out of buying the noggy blue one. I'm going to blame the credit crunch, the company that bought up the one I work for a couple of years ago went on the critical list and it's survival strategy was sell off or shut down it's subsidary companies..(share price bombed big time $7 to 0.07$ a share). Spent hundreds of millions of dollars and achieved very little, bloody amazing.

Paul, glad you are enjoying the car and not having the arm rest was one thing I liked about it, lots have the arm rest and I think it's a PITA, up/down it's always in the bloody way.

As for the link, couldn't possibly comment..

So you give phatnoise the thumbs up then....I bid on one lastweek but missed it by a few pound but not to worry. So Is the install ok todo, does it just operate from the original head unit?
no RS...yes armrest dont suit everyone but I've got one in my other b5 and I'm quite a lazy sloutchy driver so the armrest works wonders for me.lol
