Has anyone come across this RS2

Post by rs2fan » Thu Sep 03, 2009 9:03 pm

I was just wondering if anyone has ever come this RS2? It was on eBay a while ago bearing the private plate 4356 DG, I don't know if anyone on the forums has heard on this car?

Many thanks

Welcome over from PH rs2fan... to the best of my knowledge the one dealer owned, private plated car of which you mention hasnt show up anywhere in forum land. That reg is no longer on a vehicle either. iirc didnt it have a strange/unusual combination for a rhd car of RS blue paintwork with the half leather/grey alcantara interior and wood trim?
RS2 s yep ive had a few... it started with a Brilliant Black lhd then a Polar Silver and finally an RS Blau.

Many thanks for the welcome and the reply. I have to say I am very impressed with your knowledge - you are indeed correct that this is a RHD RS Blue car with the half leather/grey alcantara trim. I've managed to find the old ad on eBay, it's:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1995-AUDI-RS2-IN- ... 286.c0.m14

£13995 seems a bit steep to me (I'm not sure if the 1 owner from new status really adds any value as I'd have thought condition and work carried out more important - "slight scuffs and some minor corrosion on front wheel arch and alloys," doesn't sound a great proposition for £14k)

RS2s seem to vary in price a great deal. I've seen some up for almost £25k and others around £10k. Ideally I'd like to try and buy one I can run for a year and get most of my money back but the last time I tried that on a CL600 I lost £3k in about 1500 miles! Although the car magazines often trot out articles about running prestige cars for nothing it's practise it's not easy!!

I'm not sure if this car sold - I didn't know it has been owned by a dealer from new before. I'm quite surprised it hasn't shown up anywhere in forum land as I would have thought all RS2 owners would have hit the internet at some point.

I am a bit frustrated by adverts like this. Corrosion on galvanised bodyshell, think about it.

But galvanisation is only a coating, if it is chipped enough around the arches or other exposed areas by stones etc. it will start to corrode eventually.
Although you do raise a valid point that it could point to something more sinister.

I realise its a coating. My point is there are cars that do not need work out there. Its common due to the front bumper rubbing the wing fixing.

Goodluck but some advice. I bought from the trade because I was concerned about a private purchase. It was a beautiful polar with almost unique blue alcantara interior.
It came with the wrong tyres leaking front shocks worn propshaft bearing front caliper pad binding etc etc.
Buy from a private owner who can show you the reciepts for work done unless you want to spend 1000s in addition to the purchase price. BTW mine is still for sale but my advice has always been the same to people looking for their first RS2. You will not regret the car but you may regret buying a 'low miler' 'low owner' car without the work being done.

This was on EBay a few weeks back from an individual selling 'on behalf' of a garage in Walsall, and it was 'sold'. If that's the case how is up on here again as 1 owner? Looks to me like a dealer's taken a punt on it to try and make a couple of grand out of it.

Al - this is the one I mentioned to you the other day

I'd agree with that, mines got lots of miles but lots of history and has been very well cared for and is fine (now I've done the manafold).
Good luck

I managed to find out a bit more about the car. A dealer friend said it sold at Tewkesbury Car Auctions last Friday afternoon. He does not know what the car made at the auction but I cannot imagine it made anywhere near £15995! The car was entered into the car auction by Listers Audi.

I maybe wrong but I'd imagine the Audi dealership got a friend to advertise it on eBay and when it didn't sell on there they put in an auction amongst their normal part exchanges.

I'd be surprised if they achieve anywhere near £16k - apparently the car's last service was over 2 years ago. I'd totally agree that replaced parts are far more important than low miles and low owners - in fact I'd say this is true of many specialist cars.

Talking of RS2s, I see that Top Gear tested an RS2 with only 267 miles (reg P809UBW)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AUDI-RS2-RS4-RS6- ... 911.c0.m14

Has anyone heard of this car before? Presumably it is owned by Audi UK.

Yep thats Audis very own RS2 that only comes out on special occasions hence the 5000 miles. Re money spent on these over low miles that is the corrrect way to go...my polar silver RS2 (which is up for sale atm.. shamless plug ) has had about £8k spent on its up keep in the last few years and has just clicked over to 122k and runs like a dream. When i was looking for a replacement to my previous left hand drive black RS2 i looked at about 8 RS2s over 6 months...the worst running car was a low mileage one that was a part of a guys collection (these cars need to be used and to see 6k rpm once in a while...the best (but not the right car for me) was a 178k car that had had £0000s spent and flew. I had the lovely experience of meeting an RS2 ex owner in Waitrose car park yesterday who wowed as he relived various adventures in his old car whilst staring at mine.
