95 octane fuel in your RS6?
95 octane fuel in your RS6?
Hi all,
Now that Mr Brown has kindly increased fuel duty I have started asking myself the same question I have for the last 10 years.
I have owned my RS6 for two months now and previous to this, I've owned Subaru Impreza's for the last 10 years. I have always used higher octane fuel, usually Sainsburys super unleaded as it's close to my house and on my way home. I have on occasions had to use 95 octane in my Impreza's (uk spec sti's, not imports) and unless it's in my mind, it ran like a pig.
Just want to know if anyone uses 95 octane and how do you find it?
Many thx
Gareth

Poor describes it adequately.

Mine was "ok" for the 1 tank I had to get in near St Kew when I was running on fumes. When I say "OK" she felt sluggish, like driving an S6 not an RS.
(Sorry guys).
Would not do it again unless I had to, 99 all the way.
I guess my map doesn't like 95 much.

i think it says in the manual that you should use 98, but in an "emergency" you can use 95.
It's not about using 95? it's about getting rid of brown

What's the point of buying a 450BHP car and only getting 400BHP out of it?
The manual says not to use full throttle if you must use 95 RON - so DON'T DO IT except in emergencies.

I travel regularly to West Wales where the supplies of 97+ are a bit erratic. So I try and fill up when the tank gets to half full - that way it only gets down to a poor blend, not really bad stuff.
The difference is clearly noticeable - but it's better than being stuck at the roadside going nowhere!

Hi all,
it's the answer I expected to be honest, I was hoping for "oh yes, it runs no problems"!
I like the idea of getting rid of Brown!!
I was in France last week and before I got on the ferry at Caen, I filled up. Petrol is more than diesel over there but even before Mr Browns 2p increase, it was still cheaper than the UK.
Btw, over my 700 mile journey, I managed to get an average mpg of 22.5!!!

I didn't know the guidance was not to give it full beans .. I'm sure I've been running on council-petrol and have not been able to resist!
In answer to the question, the difference between 95 and 97/99 is, what, 4p/litre? On a 70 litre re-fill the difference is less than the price of a pint. Do your liver and your RS6 a favour next time you're out - change one of those pints for a glass of water and you're quids in!

Ok put it another way... Lets suppose you have a hot date with ooo I dunno, Jennifer anniston or angelina jollyfecker, you sit down to a slap up meal in claridges and oder a dozen of the finest Falmouth bay oysters, and slap a bottle of Lambrini on the table.....
Its not gonna go well is it.
Now pour her full of a nice puilly fume or a petit chablis and she will blow your mind..... or something.
