Redline racing have two for sale the standard 60k car looks a really nice motor if anyone is looking,there other 1 is well sorted but looks a little off colour on the wings and some gaps look a little iffy

Not to be pissy mate and I appreciate your comments on my standard car, but to state on a very influencial forum where I recommend all my customers too, that colour and gaps look iffy on a car you have not seen seems pretty discurtious. How can you give an honest opinion by looking at a picture no bigger than 6x6 inches. If thats possible, I'd like to offer you a position in my company. That company being" Redline Motor Company" not redline racing!!!! Funny how you can see gaps in panels but not my company name thats right in front of you!!!!

To be honest redline060779 I really don't see a problem with what lengster1 has said – it's an honest opinion which he is entitled to voice and def doesn't deserve the verbal bashing you've given him

Redilne - It sounds like you are the one doing more damage to your reputation by issuing a blasting like that. Lengster is entitled to his his opinion because after all this is a forum. ( a place to exchange opinions and information)

Fair enough.. I understand these forums are a place to give information and advice, and i'm totally totally open for anybody to give their opinion. I however stand on the fact that to give your opinion and advise on a given subject, especially something as sensitive as someone elses vehicle they have for sale, to comment on paint colour and panel gaps, on car they have never seen is a little annoying to say the least. I have given details of this forum to many potential customers to invite them to view common issues and to obtain general advise. If any of these people read a comment that somehow suggests that a car is either been damaged or painted, this will certainly influence them. I have no problem at all if the gentleman who posted the comment had viewed or inspected it. His comments would hold some kind of substance. BUT HE HASN'T. AND THAT TO ME IS IRRESPONSIBLE.

You posted it on an internet advertising site called Pistonheads. Everyone is entitled to make a comment on an internet discussion board about the perceived state of ANY car advertised on any website.

Lengster has owned 2 RS4's including the new B7 and he knows alot about these cars and I'd imagine he know more than most independent garage companies purport to know about these rare cars.

If I were you I'd have just taken a different tact and not dug a hole for yourself. A simple invite to Lengster to come and have a look at the car to see for himself would have been the more "mature" approach.

I think this qualifys as sufficiant knowledge regarding my stock. However...I think that you are missing my point. I agree I could of invited Lengster to come view the car. But would he really of traveled out his way!!!
It may be just me, but find it simply wrong that anyone could comment on the physical condition of a particular vehicle without ever setting eyes on it. No picture of the vehicle on any website is clear enough, hi res enough or even large enough to be able to come to the conclusion lengster did. Its as stupid and irresponsible as stating" in my opinion, looking at the pics, the engine sounds very rough"....

How wrong you are mate about pics of cars, we have picked up loads of defects of cars on this site and had them ALL confirmed when someone has gone to see them. It's not rocket science and photos can actually show more than the eye can detect sometimes.

I'd do as no_RS suggests and post some hi-res pics to show the condition of each body panel.

Oh and I find the ad somewhat confusing, two cars are offered, it's not clear the spec of each, just that one has got quite a few nice mods on it and they are the same price? Why not relist them and show just pics of each car and list the spec of each car?

How this has turned around to this ive no idea,look at the thread title you should be glad REDLINE of my praise for what i thought was a nice well priced car,the comment regarding the modded one refering to the gapping can be seen even on a low resolution 6" photo,look at the panel gapping above the headlight on the n/s wing and compare to the other car.This comment was purely to alert any possible viewers to have a good look in that n/s area,there is alot of adjustment in the front slam panel and headlight and can often not gap correctly if not refitted correctly after a belt change etc if the slam pneal is low on the n/s and the bump stop on the bonnet hasnt been re adjusted it could create this and be innocent but it may not aswell.I have been offered a job in the past as a buyer for a dealership but its not my main income/job,i did salvage for a hobby for years and can spot repaired cars a mile off,i would of offered to meet up with anyone from here to view and inspect either car as im not far away but now im not sure

Hope this validates my comment and adds some substance,as contigo says you can tell a reasonable amount from photos but i agree pyshical inspection is required for a proper inspection of paint mechanicals etc which if i was looking to buy i obviously would,my current contract expires soon so i may need a new job if theres one going!! Put my skills to the test if you like

Right....Let me clear things up or at least try!!!!! In my first reply I did state that I appreciated your comments regard the standard car. As you can appreciate, people who have never owned and RS4 have many questions and reservation when ploughing 17k plus into a 8 yr old car. Trying to answer and reassure customers is difficult at the best of times. SO....i point them to the RS246 forum, and praise the information and people on this site. It helps me if the people wishing to purchase these cars know they have somewhere to get honest answers, advise and etc.
Now, as a new comer to any forum, you feel hesitant to trouble members with questions that have probably been asked many a time. What things to look for? Common Issues.....Only over time do they feel more comfortable and able to dig deeper.
So....a newbie looks through the past topics and stumbles accross your comment. Suddenly they are confronted with different colour wings and panels mis aligned. This information is enough to stop any potential buyer coming to view the car as they are taking the advise of what seems to be a genuine, long existing member of the forum. Why question he's expertise!!!!!

Now, I take on board your last comment and maybe if this was posted first then I wouldn't of reacted the way I did.
I try hard to make sure that every car I sell is to the very highest standards that I can acheive.
Come on chap....things are hard in the trade at the moment and things are hard for everybody. I feels things get harder when someone puts comments such as yours without thinking it through. I understand your reasons and I applaud people looking out for others on this site. That is what its all about.
I only ask you to be a little more tactful or post more info with your comments in the future. I hope you understand my position!!!! No hard feelings!!!!!

Trade hard? There's never been a better time to sell second hand vehicles!!! It's rampant at the moment and dealers are crying out for motors and punters are spending again as the prices have crashed in recent months. Prices are going up on some marques but generally there are bargains to be had.
