I travel along many motorway networks daily and consiquently come across many sets of SPECS. They work in my opinion, but I often wonder if those who just scream past me are either unaware of these, simply dontt care or know some secret I dont!
Are they fool proof? Does the rumour of changing lanes fool them?
Whats your views on these devices that are increasingly popping up everywhere?
SPECS average speed cameras

i've wondered that too when people go flying past me.i've never seen so many as the m42 but only down that way a few time a year, up here in the north east we have very few speed cameras just lots of unmarked police cars

Funnily enough Radio One did a phone in on SPECS cameras yesterday morning about the same time you posted this thread. Vernon Kay and co were unconvinced they worked, but got loads of people calling in to say they'd been caught out by them.
I think it's an urban myth that they don't work if you switch lanes, after all they probably just store registration and timestamp information onto a database shared by all of the cameras. Imagine it would be more hassle maintaining a seperate database for each lane.
Let the fools get the points on their licenses... we have no trouble catching them in the mile or two after the SPECS cameras anyway!

See where your coming from - I posted this thread at 9.20pm, although the time looks misleading at first glance!, it does say PM. I would of liked to have listened to that and it would be good to get other's opinions.Blue_Thunder wrote:Funnily enough Radio One did a phone in on SPECS cameras yesterday morning about the same time you posted this thread.
Regardless, I will stick to the limit, even though there never appears to be anyone on the road or indeed any work being done. I think it is a government ploy to slow traffic down!
RE: Re: RE: SPECS average speed cameras
if a temporary speed limit is in force the speed camera's automatically arm at the lower limit and raise extra revenue its not to assist road works or any kind of safety issue
RE: Re: RE: SPECS average speed cameras
Me and a few friends were talking about them the other day strangely. None of us know anybody that has been caught by them but everytime we're going through with cruise control set to the stated limmit so many others fly passed seemingly unaware. I wonder if those who called into radio 1 were gov' whistle blowers trying to make out that they work lol. As above though, I'll stick to the limmit while going through them.
