Battery drain??

Post by estrop77 » Sun Jul 26, 2009 4:27 pm

Been using her for the past couple of days, long runs etc. Went to take her out this morning and the battery was flat.

Audi Assistance came out (RAC chap) very thorough and helpful. Battery was 11.4 volts so he jump started her. Alternator, battery all ok but he said there was a 0.6amp drain on the battery which should be 0.2amps when everything is off and locked up.

any thoughts on what this could be???

thanks chaps

Sounds like quite a lot. I would put an amp meter on the terminal and pull fuses one by one until I found what circuit was draining the battery. Make sure you've got all the codes for your radio, etc., first.

This seems strange to me because an 88Ahr battery which I think is what is the norm for an RS6 will last 440 Hrs or put another way 18 days or so which is not much good if you leave your motor at the airport for 3 weeks?

Is 0.2amps really the stand drain on the battery when locked up?

yes thanks Joules Camberley did a battery test and the battery was only pulling 9.1volts when still showing nearly 14 on the dash. New battery required and fitted. not cheap they're £180 fitted and yoiu have to reset all the windows and ecu !!

Interesting to see how you get on. I changed for a Bosch circa 100Ah (same size) from Costco and paid around £100.

Easy to change just remember to plug a 12v supply into you cig socket and you won’t lose anything.

I am interested in the current draw though.... come on forum is 0.3A drain when locked up OK?

I paid about £100 for a Bosch recently as well. Didn't plug anything into the 12v and only lost the radio, which was obviously easily recovered with the code.

Have you tried this yet?

Do you set radio to record traffic info when you turn off the car?
