Hunter GSP9700 Tyre Diagnostics - Henley in Arden

Not been 100% happy with the Vredenstein Sessanta, even at 1500 miles. After my last little foray with correctly balanced tyres but a feeling of over worked suspension I decided to go see the Tyre doctor.

A guy called Dan at Jacksons Ford in Henley in Arden knows his stuff and knows how to work the Hunter machine - He has some background as he provided the tyres for the BMW BTCC team last season.

I cant admit to knowing all the tech that he and the machine told me. Bottom line was that the alloys were fine and the tyres were just on the edge of being OK. Even after force matching (ie high spot of tyre counteracting high spot of alloy). Basically got tyres perfectly balanced but at 60mph there's between an 8-11Kg addition of unsprung load (per tyre) as the tyres are a bit *<beep>*/variable.

Anyway, got them nitrogen filled and they're as good as they can be.

I now know why PS2's cost more...And know what I'll be buying next time around.

Interesting comments, as some days the Vredesteins are fabulous and then others and especially when warming up they are absolutely awful, you can feel the road surface to finite detail which is annoying. That and on the good days there is no vibration in them at all across the speed range but tonight for example there was front vibration at 60 and then at 90 and these are wheels that were balanced 2 weeks ago.

I'm hoping they are just going through a poor patch, otherwise I'll be going back to Goodyears.

I'm finding the Sessantas fine in the dry, but a real handful in the wet - they dont inspire much confidence.

I've been in conversation with Vredestein UK with regard to the Ultra Sessantas fitted to my car. Their technical customer services rep came to attend a retest on the Hunter equipment. It was a nice hot sunny day, and the outcome is that in the dry the tyres have settled well, tyres showing 65Nm-80Nm on the Hunter. Vredestein had offered to swap the tyres at no cost, given the retest results it didnt seem to worth it. In an effort to improve the handling the tyres have been refilled with Nitrogen and set to 2.7bar. Will see whether the wet handling confidence improves.
