Can the GSM phone cradle be removed from the dash without leaving holes or a big mess?

Unfortunately not. There is a thread on the RS4 forum on this subject.

Thought that was probably the case, I have seen companies that can fill and recolour the holes without a trace so I may do that, buy the new dash trim from somewhere or get creative and turn it into an iPod touch holder

I would go the hole filling route. I remember the arm rest of my S3 cracking and I got it filed. It was not noticeable to the point that when selling time came I pointed it out to the eventual buyer and he not even noticed it.

Yeah that would be my prefered option, anything hanging off the dash looks untidy doesn't it and the way they fill an retexture the area is spot on
