S4 exhaust modification

Post by 1781cc » Sat Jul 25, 2009 11:59 am

OK< looking at possibly changing my exhaust system from the cat back to open her up a little more. obviously miltek is highly regarded in these parts, but being as budget is of importance, I am also looking at AWE, Magnaflow and APR.

Anyone have experience these alternates and where did you get them from? achtuning looks like a good resource, but other than that it really is a mess out there... some sites dont even have pricces listed and some "so called" specialists just have "products coming soon" on their sites!?

any help appreciated!

MIJ did my complete system. They fabricated my downpipes, sports cats and catback. The total cost was about £1000, less than what you pay for Milltek downpipes...! I did it in stages. The whole system takes aobut 3-4days. 1/2 is needed ot let the exhaust cool down. Good service and they will talk you through all options. I recommend you do a little research so that YOU know exactly what you are after. I would suggest you try audizine, audiworld for more info.

thanks for the info guys. they sound like a solid reputable operation. will definately be looking into this option more, although I have a slight hesitancy based on my experience of powerflow systems in the past...

So for the MIJ complete system, how much of a difference did you notice in the power stakes? and as for the exhaust sound itself - is it meatier?? my prime aim isnt too skewed towards grunt, its more about the car actually sounding like the performance vehicle it is.

Milltek appealed because of reputation, but the cost is extortionate in proportion to other manufacturers.

oh and chunky79, I am based in Milton Keynes

thanks peeps!

The reason i was asking where you were based was to let you know about the company that has already been mentioned above. I've not used them but heard about them on here. It's only 2 hours max away from you.

Lee: To pull all the mods together I also have a re-map. The car feels more lively, stronger for longer in the rev range. Sound wise it is much better than a cat-back alone. I also have a h-pipe which helps to balance out exhaust gas pulses as well as refining the sound. In that it is definitely louder than stock and a cat-back but is not too intrusive in the cabin or look at me to the public. The h-pipe also reduced droning.

Numbers? I do not know and I will not find out. What I intend to do one fine day, been saying this for months now, is to log some 0-60 and ¼ mile times. This for me is the best indicator of gains.

cheers Dunc!

BlingBling: I hear ya, my car has already been dynoed at 366bhp as its already been mapped. so I was curious to see the gains in hp marks because the BRC LPG system I am running only copes up to 400bhp, so although I wouldnt expect a complete new system to push it over, I will be looking at inlet airflow as well soon. thanks for the recommendations though, do you have any videos of your car on youtube at all? or anyone else with a MIJ system for that matter?

thanks

they quote 2-3 hours on the website to fabricate a full system but that wont include downpipes i shouldnt think, i'm just investigating a company in darlington, northeast , they do full custom exhausts fabricated on site, i requested no pre cats 100 cell main cats and the usual rear set up and i have been quoted £670 but i dont know if they're any good

If you do a search a number of members have issues with Milltek for their quality, a number have apparently cracked...

MIJ's quality 'should' be better than Milltek as they're bespoke made.
