Spare Key

Post by stumpyrs4 » Sat Jul 25, 2009 8:11 pm

Phoned the local stealer yesterday to enquire about the cost of getting a spare key sorted...

£160 + VAT !!!

WTF ?!

I'm sure someone's gonna come along in a minite and tell me there's another way of getting another key somehow, but for a rather more sensible price?

Stumpy,

Are we in some sort of parallel world.

Swapped Hi Tec interior
Standard car thinking of modifying
I need a spare key as well!

Had to get one for the S4. Don't have the invoice to hand as passed it to new Owner but I think that the radio part of the key was about £35, key body and blade perhaps £50 plus 1/2 hour to code it. I was thinking I paid about £130 + VAT.

Some have done it a little cheaper on e-bay / key cutting place but still need to get coding done by dealer.

Will look at a remap in the spring I think.

Cambelt due in 10000 miles along with 20000 mile servide and discs a little thin to sort first though.

Must get a key - it takes a few days to get one.

Have you ever lost a key or needed a spare ? I haven't but always 'feel' like I must have one, just in case!!

i made up a key

bought a fob from ebay - make sure you buy the same type and frequency, bought a blank blade from ebay, had it cut at a local locksmith, then recoded all keys at a dealer for £35 - should take 15mins max

Will check out the blanks on ebay though - brilliant.

take your apart and make sure you get the right one - p/n is inside it. the key breaks into 2 parts. the front end with the transponder can be opened by prising up the audi rings badge and there is a small screw inside.

this might help as well
