Doug at MRC again!

Post by kcsun » Mon Jul 13, 2009 5:41 pm

Wins the title - Top Man again

Took noggy in today as she was not feeling well, down on power etc. I thought it was going to be a vacuum issue but Doug's first words were "I reckon it might be the fuel lines disintegrating - do you use Vpower" the answer was yes I do and Yes the that was the problem. All the crap was collecting in a return valve at the end of the injector pipework. Apparently I was the third car in with the same problem in a week

Anyway the car is back on full power and that is the main thing

Thanks to Doug all sorted in two hours

Beware if you use Shell V power - looks like I will return to BP from now on

kc, glad you got it sorted, can I ask, what did Doug mean when he asked 'did you use Shell V Power?'

As I've used this since owning the RS, as did the previous owner...

BP Ultimate better then? how so?

Nills...he says "do you use" in his reply

So must mean does he use it all the time.

I would be inclined to know this, as mine has been using V-Power since I bought it.

3 cars in the last week have had melted fuel lines - and they have all used shell Vpower.

1 car was health checked and mapped one day - next day it played up after he took it home - so that tank has definitely caused the fuel lines to melt.

I have checked my car after using tesco99 and no signs of melting.

Do the fuel lines need to be replaced if this is the case? And what was that about the return valve?

I don't trust Tesco fuel since what happened last time with the sulphur content, hence why I use V-Power.

I was one of those 3 cars suffering from crap in the return valve. Primarily I use BP97 from Windsor BP on Dedworth road (brand new tanks and pumps). Now and then use a mix of Vpower/Tesco99 and occasionally ESSO Crud when forced to. Since having the valve cleaned I've had no problems, had a full tank of Vpower and BP97 through it since. I'm in seeing Doug on Monday so we'll pop it off and have a look and post the findings.

On a side note, some top tuners in the Subaru world suggest never using BP Ultimate in tuned/mapped cars. Various reasons why but I've continued to try to stick to VPower in all my performance cars since, whether standard or not.

Melted fuel lines though? Thats serious, any ideas how this has happened and whether its a problem with fuel quality in general or certain filling stations? If its the latter then it certainly wouldn't be the first time I've heard of crud causing filter/pump issues.

Tesco 99 all the way for me. Thats what I`ve always used and Doug also uses it as its the only 99 RON fuel available at the pumps and is cheaper than V Power.
I will admit though that you do get better MPG with V power
