where do i find it?! i think mines gone, or playing up (or possible cable fault) recently i have been getting rubbish fuel economy and i noticed today one mine the temp gauge was on 90 next as low as it can read!!

Its underneath the accordian hose. So on the LHS when you stand in front of the engine bay. Remove the hose, and you'll see it, mounted on the metal water pipe at the rear of the engine.

Has a 4 pin plug, and if its the original one, will be black in colour.

Will probably be seized in, so will require a good amount of tugging!

thanks guys im sure they sent me the wrong part the one they sent me was a a square plug the one i found was like a D shape

Yep thats probably the earlier one, blue in colour IIRC.

Never used on the RS4!

would you recommend changing it on a 100k service or leave it till it goes?

Change it as a matter of preventative maintenance IMO
