Replacement Key Fob

Post by jd_hants » Mon Jul 06, 2009 10:24 am

I only had one key with my RS6 so I had better get myself another before I lock myself out.

Audi have quoted a rediculous amount for a replacement. £150+VAT

I have bought a 3-button key fob with the correct part number on eBay with a blank fitted.

Anyone know where I can get it cut / transponder programmed??? Lots of companies on the web state they can do it but I'd appreciate if anyone has done this already and can recommend somewhere.

You'll be lucky if it works mate. I was having a similar dilema 2 weeks ago when one of mine temporarily died. Every specialist i spoke to (mrc included) told me that the fobs have to be identical or they wont work. Not so much the part number that matters, its the chip within the fob that has to match. The key from Audi was £60 quid i believe and you may be able to get one of those cut by a specialist for less. The fob, if you can find a matching one you can code yourself in the door of the car, but thats if you have a working key for it. If you want to know how, consult the owners handbook. Its an easy job if you have the right fob.

Yes, Im having a nightmare finding someone to do it locally as otherwise I would have to send my 'only' key off as well which there is no way Im going to do. I think I will buy the key part from Audi and just attach a fob and program myself as Ive done before. Still saves a fair bit so worth doing.
