Aircon actual temperature
I measured my aircon today (not on the '6) using a ±0.05% accurate thermocouple, it was 26 degrees outside and 2.0 degrees (minimum) at the vents on re-circ. When the aircon switched off, it would reach around 7 degrees max, before switching on again. It's cold!

I am glad that you are the man with all of this , thanks for your input.
I have a question for you
Whilst driving with the family in the car for a period of time I always feel the cabin getting very warm to the extent that i have to use the a/c to cool. Firstly why can i not get cool air from outside into car ? ( am I not useing the controls properly)
If I have to use the a/c in this situ what would you recommend the temp on the control to be at , I always find that after 10mins it is uncomfortable cold ?
So I switch off and go through on/off routine until we get to where we are goin.
BTW this not whilst driving in hot weather , just when there are more than me in the car .

Right, the most important thing to remember is that comfortable temperature is a very personal thing. What is nice and cool for Kwak will be brass monkeys for Rupert etc etc.
A/C does not take this into consideration (obviuosly!) It can only work on measurable heat called sensible heat. So if you set your temperature at 20deg C, the unit will control it at 20 deg C with a diff of probably 2-4 degrees. So on at 22 off at 19.9 degrees thereabouts.
As for your family in the caR AND STRANGE FLUCTUATIONS IN TEMPERATURE, i would say thatif you set the AC to Auto and a temperature that you are happy with whenn you are in the car alone, that it SHOULD control it at that with 120 people in it, only it will take longer to acheive that temp beacuse of the heatload introduced by the extra paople. Body temp is about 22 deg c so put that in 4 times and the load is considerable. If you have the unit on recirc, it probably will not use the ambient air to cool as the load is too great, however, if the recirc is off, and the TD between in and out is sufficient, it should use it. The only other optiom that I cannpt give you a definate answer on id the econ button, this may be another form od free cooling, but i AM NOT SURE.
Also you must consider the heat generated by solar gain, mechanical gain and this is in addition to human gain.
Never have the AC on and windows open, do not be afraid to throttle the vents accordingly.
Some cars are just wierd, my old B6S4 had a real hotspot just by the ignition key, and nothing I could do would get rid of it, and I never found out what caused it either!

yes it is correct that most people have different comfort levels , I find that the car gets stuffy and uncomforatble after a while.Try as i might i get nothing out of the vents from the outside to cool down, I use econ button alot is this the outside air coming in ? ( iam not convinced)
So my only way of cooling is a/c or open windows ( at motorway speeds its a bit uncomfortable , my ears take a bashing)
On other cars I have had with a/c i could still get outside air in the car from the vents without driving any fans to operate it

Calum, let me do a bit of research for you, and I will get back on the econ button etc. My first thought is that the car should bring on the AC if the temp is outside its parameters, but until i know for sure what the econ button does, i cannot comment further. Leave it with me matey.

Question for Mooch and others.
All this talk of Air Con makes me think of the Industrial Fridge Engineers that I used to do a lot of work with in the past (water treatment on water cooled condensers)
A lot of these engineers from the likes of Star, York Grenco etc used to carry some big bits of kit in their car boots.
With the Six being a well respected load carrier
Mooch whats the biggest compressor you have carried in the back?
- Screw? Reciprocating?
Or whats the biggest gas cylinder you have lugged?
Opening the question to all -whats the weirdest load you have carried in the Six.
Extra points awarded for large loads in Saloons!

The only thing I have ever put in the boot other than luggage was a bog in a box from B&Q. Pulled up at some lights and had a C4S 911 pull up along side. The last thing he saw was an estate car with a bog in the back kicking his ass!
the biggest compressor I ever carried in the back of any car was an Astra van, A J&E Hall HS36 Screw WITH the motor! Carried it from HMS Argyle in Devonport to the workshop in Laira. The only way we could get it out was by chaining it to the test bench and driving off! We stacked a load of pallets behind the van with a steel plate on top, and managed to get the motor section on top but the screw was overhanging by about 6 ft, needless to say, gravity took over....
