Which RE-MAP?

Post by RS6 Mugello » Sat Dec 13, 2008 10:53 pm

Have a RS6 (c5) and thought about getting the most bangs for my bucks and decided on a re-map so looked at various options and went with MRC.

Very happy with the MRC re-map and know others are equally happy with theirs and was looking to collate comments for others whom have not yet taken the modification path to greater performance.

Surrey Rolling Road had mine (after re-map) down as 491 BHP and 389 at the wheels with around 550lbsft of torque and very good fuel to air ratio.

Fuel economy has noticeably improved (especially around town) and would say at least 10% better if not 15%. The car will now hold fifth gear at 30mph!

Service was very good and professional (Doug and Lucas) and the price was definitely worth the trip to Banbury.

Quite a few - search the RS4 forum for plenty of heated debate, and no clear conclusions!

My RS6 is currently West Tuned, but would go for MRC custom tune next time. CC would be my next choice but I guess it depends where you are based.

I have both my C5 RS6 and B7 RS4 tuned by MRC. I will not go beyond them.

Is it worth having the gearbox remapped at the same time or is the Stage 1 enough?

If you don't want to experience gear hunting, the gearbox HAS to be remapped on a C5 RS6 as soon as the engine management system is altered. Any serious tuner has to be aware of this and offer it from the start even with a Stage 1 remap for the RS6.

The CC and Revo maps have been toned down somewhat so that the gearbox doesn't hunt as they cannot flash the box ECU through the OBD port.
I know with my MTM, the box was done soon afterwards as it was a pain in the arse to drive. Eprom had to be soldered into the gearbox ECU.
Kim was surprisingly helpful :)

So excuse my ignorance but what effects does the MRC reprogramme have on the driving of the car? Does it feel substantially quicker? Is it more driveable with the gearbox reprogrammed? Just wondered what the benefits are for the outlay.

Can only talk about the MRC re-map but it definitely feels quicker (much) and pulls like an express train. It is more driveable and the economy has certainly improved (10-15%) as long as you don't floor it.

Enjoy
