Wing mirrors gone!

Post by Contigo » Sat Jun 27, 2009 7:43 am

In the past and on a regulare basis i leave the car in London and Reading but yesterday I leave the motor outside my sisters house in Lancashire and wake up this morning to see both wingmirrors gone. Missus said she head some noise but I was out of it and didn#t get woken at all.

Feel both sick and angered but that is the World we live in today and it will cost me at the end of the day.

Prices please and part numbers so I can lube my hole up and get shafted a bit more.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune mate, its become an all to common thing these days my mate has had his done twice and i scared them off from stealing mine with a fully grown japanese akita, they havent been back since plus i sold my s3 to get one of these (rs4) not found it yet tho. I hope you get things sorted. The police should be doing a better job, but thats easier said than done.

are the mirrors not £350-£400 each? so the excess is well worth paying, might aswell, you'll need to polish the rest of the chrome to match the new mirrors tho.

Chrome is mint on mine so no biggies and the mirrors were in excellent condition.

Rang Audi and they have quoted me 407 plus vat (without glass) EACH!!!! So yeah it's worth paying the excess for tw new mirrors.

Now the next question. Were the electric folders an option? Do they just go onto the same wires as the loom? Will I be able to blag a pair?

That price sounds about right from the dealers, its a shocking amount of money for a mirror. I think my mate got his for just under £400 with everything included from glasgow audi although they were for an s3.

I assume they would have been an option, no big deal in my opinion but cool to have if they fold away when locked like the merc ones.

Are you sure you can get electric folding mirrors on a b5? I dont think you can i certainly have never seen one in the flesh.Contigo have you wayed up the extra premuim you are going to pay for a few years plus excess is it worth claiming? I presume youve been ringing around to no avail for secondhand ones?

Let's just say I've managed to get away with just paying the excess as I have put the damage down to Vandalism!

folding opton was available and im sure PhilT has it on his RS4. Also someone on here done it and posted the wiring diagrams. iirc you need to change the surround where the switches are located. Try doing a search. You could go down the route of just replacing them with the plastic body colour ones BUT have them proffesionaly painted in an aluminium colour. Believe me it is VERY hard to distinguish between the two until you touch them. Plus if the feckers come back they will leave them alone.

Pair of basic primed mirrors inc glass from the stealers inc VAT is around £260. Add £40 to get them professionally resprayed and you're looking at £300 all in.

This is what I did when my ally ones got kicked off their mountings; not worth spending £900+ for them to disappear again. IMO.
