nor would I hire you for my 107 year old engineering CONSULTING firm, of which I am the 4th president in its history...
our profit has been record since my tenure...so I won't be sending a resume' any time soon

I got my NPDES yesterday, took a year...250000 gal/day, to treat gas well drilling wastewater (frac & brine)....at 8-12 cents a gallon....5 days a week, 52 weeks a year, ad infinitum
are you the guy who called Newton's ballistic equation a 'first order'?
it's a second order linear approximation of an unbounded order, non-linear system...but it's close enough
What in the world are you talking about? No, I'm not that guy. You either have me confused with someone else, or are experiencing a lapse of memory.ArthurPE wrote:

That's nice that you're making money building wastewater treatment facilities. I'm sure you're very good at it. However, I can tell you that I'm not making what I say up.
If you recall, I'm the one who has studied RS4 oil, hired a professional consulting tribologist, and diagnosed oil fuel dilution related deposit issues on this engine over two years ago. All of the predictions of my tribologist and myself have come true. We saw the issues in the oil analysis signatures, using his racing-derived screens.
I am the one who did put his money where his mouth was and had an advanced oil formulated for this engine to specifically fight fuel dilution, deposit formation, control wear, and have longer life than the current batch of Audi-approved oils. I've had my car up on a dyno multiple times, and in controlled ways, correlating the Vag-Com readouts to the dyno. I can tell you that there is good correlation to the shape of the curve, which is all that is necessary to determine whether the "power bump" occurs at 5500 rpm or not. Whether you believe this or not is immaterial. It is fact.
I cannot tell you exactly what is causing the timing pull and subsequent power loss above 5500 rpm on this engine, but I can assure you that it is real. On my engine, it was confirmed by Vag-Com and FATS runs on the highway in 4th gear pulls to redline. It was also confirmed by multiple runs on a Mustang dyno at different times. It was confirmed when I had a Milltek exhaust and downpipes installed, when I performed A/B same day dyno runs.
SilverRS4 was the first to independently confirm my findings when he had his intake manifold pulled. (Others have since independently confirmed his findings about deposits. As has my local service department on the entire Audi FSI engine line here in RI.) SilverRS4 has also confirmed the efficacy of RLI Biosyn in greatly reducing intake valve deposits. But he, as well as I, are still interested in why this engine is so exceeding sensitive that it pulls timing, when all other measures of the engine are within limits. Both of us suspect it to be deposit related, not due to airflow (as you keep trying to say) but because deposits in the CC cause detonation.
You are welcome to propose your own hypothesis that can be tested. But the fact that the ECU pulls timing and reduces power output for "some reason" is not in dispute. It is fact. It happens on the dyno, on the highway, and on the track.
FFS, kindly FCUK off our good news thread and go somewhere else. All I know is this, my car does the quoted 0-60 and 0-100 and quarter mile times, a dyno says it produces near what is claimed in bhp and so near it doesn't make a difference.
If you have thousads of $ or £ to throw at your car opening it up and cleaning it out etc etc then best of luck to you and I say that genuinely. For the others thinking about buying an RS4 or have one and are at the edge of their budgets having one or could use the money elsewhere like me with a young family, as much as this particular part of the forum has begun to scare RS4 owners they have bought a duffer of a car whose suspension will either constantly fail or who engine will coke up so bad it will cease functioning properly don't worry.
50,000 miles in and my RS4 is getting better. Theorise all you like, change the grade of oil if you believe that helps, get half a ton of walnut shells and blast them at your manifold this is why we have choice. Me, I'm sticking with the car as is because it does what Audi says it should on the brochure and if it fails because of excess carbon build up then I'll eat humble pie, in the meantime my modified DRC is bone dry and the car is tip top.

'Flame suit on - Another Rolling Road Day' - what a title! That Flame suit is now required!
IF my car was running 370 - 380 and wasn't hesitant at high speed, I would also be happy...I'm just against the corporate giant that hasn't got the common decency, wont acknowledge and reply to my recent letter...

Bravo Bud and well said.
These cars are brilliant
Every special car has some flaws, the RS is no different. It's great some owners are trying to find solutions as some guys can't afford the work involved and so benefit from their wisdom.
All that said my car runs great and seems fine to me in every department
If you are intending to buy one...... do it (just do all the right checks beforehand)....... they're awesome..... and appreciating to boot...... nice one

i drive mine hard and its performing to spec, so i'm happy.
i wont be putting on a rolling road, as it would appear they dont produce the quoted figures...
but if that was the case, and they were down on power, how could they produce the quoted times etc?
unless audi made up the 414 bit? but again, its doing sub 5 second 60's and sub 11 100's, so who cares?
argueing about the theories behind it all is largely pointless, as audi dont appear to give 2 fucks anyway?
enjoy your cars guys

I like to think of it the other way round...argueing about the theories behind it all is largely pointless, as audi dont appear to give 2 fucks anyway?
Audi don't care because most owners don't care.
The debate about the DRC and the achieved solution was pointless?
Perhaps the difference is that if you have an engineering inclination....rather than (or in addition to) a big wallet...you might be interested in:
- Why front discs on the car continually warp?
- Why the DRC system leaks/weeps continually?
- Why the car's back end fidgets no end on heavy braking?
- Why the oil temperature rises to in excess of 130C if you drive the car hard?
- Why the inlet manifold covers itself in gunk in <3000 miles?
- Does the car require such a sophisticated CCV system?
- Why the car generally fails to produce the quoted figures on chassis dynos?
- Why some cars running 99RON fuel still <beep> timing above 5500rpm?
- Why the suspension knocks when it unloads?
- Why the steering graunches at full lock when the tread is low and the ambient temperature is low?
- Why some SW0080 cars have a tendency to demonstrate oscillatory airflow as measured by the MAF throughout the rev range? etc etc...
Notwithstanding the lack of courtesy extended to some, the fact it is robust is in everyones interest.
If the answers to such questions enfranchise even one owner endeavouring to get the corporate giant to address his particular's cars issues, hasn't it been worth it?
One would like to think there was some solidarity amongst enthusiasts, such that even if they were happy with their own particular car's performance, they might be sympathetic to others' concerns, especially in the light of good data to support it.
None of the above means I don't think the RS4 is a good car which I enjoy everyday.
But it could be better.
My $0.02.

wow.
my point was arguing about these things is largely pointless...sorry if you see that as discourteous...but is there any point in arguing about our cars? honestly?
calling each other silly?
thats discourteous, and your dismissive tone isnt going to make me think any different.
its a car..they all have foiables, some more than others...you can stress/obsess about all of those things all day for me
mines ok, if it goes wrong, i'll take it somewhere and get it put right?
if it continues to go wrong, it can go back a couple more times and hopefully get sorted...
failing that, i'll back it and get something else, and not lose any sleep, at all, throughout the whole process...
no offence intended.

jesus christ!!! Getting sick of the so called fanatics constantly moaning about this and that. If you aint happy with the RS4s quirks..SELL IT and piss off to another forum..
This site is turning into the most negative about our own pride and joys ive ever been on..
I love mine to bits END OF.
Go and buy a BMW or Merc please and stop constantly moaning about RS4s.

jonathonturner,
I don't recall calling anyone silly nor is the intention to be dismissive...not quite sure how my post could be construed like that...
We're not arguing about the cars...well I'm not...I'm merely interested in understanding why they do what they do...
You're entitled to your opinion (maybe you might feel differently 2+ years into your ownership of the car?), but you obviously haven't come up against the corporate wall have you? Getting your car "fixed" might not be as easy as you think....Mac4RS is having a hell of a time.
My wife recently registered her interest in a TT-RS. The dealer phoned her yesterday to ask if there was anything they could "do for her". What???? A complimentary spa perhaps???
The impression one gets is that the system will bend over backwards for you when you're about to spend the £, but once they've had it, well...
Likewise, no offence intended and none taken.
Its the internet right?

It does appear to me the folk getting most wound up about the issue are those who have nothing wrong with their car!
How ironic.

do you really need to be so patronising?
if you read the thread back..there are plenty of people getting wound up, i am not one of them..i was trying to inject a bit of light hearted banter into the thread.
there are two very intelligent people insulting each other because they cant come to any agreement about things that i dont understand.
i dont care to understand them, i just dont see the need to argue about stuff and then start insulting each other...
i am not the only person on this and other threads who are bemused at the obsessive negativity over the rs4.
i will try and stay away from threads like this from now on, as they are clearly not for me.
