If its perfect 400 miles isn't that far these days. I drove over 800 miles in a day to view two porsche 911 turbo (exact rare specs and low miles). Having left home 5.00 am I got home 11.30 pm and placed the order for the 1st car I saw over the phone on the drive back ( having already asked for their best deal and telling them I was looking at another vehicle that day ).
You have to look nationally if you are fussy but its luck where and what turns up. In my previous search for a ferrari after 9 months searching nationally for an exact spec I spotted one at the local ferrari dealer 2 miles from where I live. Initially it was in for a service but having told the salesman I would buy it they did a deal and put the owner in a newer one. Perfect for everyone and obviously meant to be.
Happy hunting but be prepared to travel once you have spoken to the seller and got decent digital pictures of things like seat bolsters on recaro's, all 4 alloys etc ...

Been on the net for a while now, so you'd get some discount as the market did slightly over correct from christmas prices. Also a couple of others at Audi dealers that are all sub 20K miles at less than £38k......so, what are you waiting for?
Other than it being 400miles away it's perfect
If you are buying a specialist car and want the right one then I reckon the distance should be a minor consideration. I live in Somerset but bought my RS in Derbyshire, bought my S3 in Surrey, my C55 in Nottingham, my E30 M3 in Sunderland..etc, etc

the one I was looking at is only 30miles away but decided it's too many miles..

the one 400miles away is ok, but too far to spend the time traveling for, i.e. it's missing a few features so have discounted it..

Well good luck with the search anyway, it'll be well worth it when you find the right one, fantastic cars!

I'd say it's entirely possible!
I bought an S3 from Bramleys, fantastic car with huge spec
Same here! I bought an updated 8L S3 with high spec - even had the rear parking sensors, which IMOA made the car look slightly better at the rear.
It was an import - but at the time dealers only had the old spec cars.

Seems an import to me.

I have never bought a car locally, always end up travelling the length of the country to find the right one. Be patient, the car that you want will turn up, but you may have to travel.

i bought my car over the phone without seeing it or driving it.

when in turns up, if its not right, they can take it back again and refund me money...

driving for any amount of hours is just not necessary.

tell em what you expect, do your research on common faults and get them to assure you they have been investigated individually, check obvious points like bolster wear by way of photographs and make them aware you are very very picky and will reject the car if it aint right.

easy.

nope. 34k for an 07 car with 16k on it. 3 owners.

just had pads, new rear tyres, drc inspected, and its been detailed.

i told them i know my stuff and i will reject it on anything that they have not declared up front.

they are driving it from lincoln to manchester, so they need to have it right.

they said the only thing it had on it was some tiny chips on the bonnet, whichwere not big enough or plentiful enough to justify paint

i have bought several cars this way and only ever rejected one, and it came 160 miles in <beep> state so i sent it back.

i try not to deal with inedpendant garages, as i have less of a chance of issue resolution and i make my position known prior to making a payment...

nothing to go wrong really, and no time wasted travelling about the country...
