Clonk from the front on speedhumps - DRC??
Clonk from the front on speedhumps - DRC??
Only clonks as I come off the speedhump, not as I mount the speedhump. Doesn't do it if you drive slowly, but if you drive over them as you would in a normal car - there is a definaite clonking noise. Not entirely happy with the handling either, but I keep reminding myself that I have been in a CSL for the last few years, so maybe I just have to get used to it. I'm a great believer in just driving a car for the first 6 months before I try any mods - I know countless people who buy a car and then mod the hell out of it without really learning anything about the genetic dynamics of the car in the first place.

I noticed this on mine before I had the brake fluid changed at Camberley Audi so I got the technicians there (who really know their stuff) to check my DRC. All OK, no depressurisation - the guidance I got was that, if you take the speed bumps slowly, then you won't get the clonking. Anything over, say, 15mph and Mr. Clonk makes his presence felt.
Seriously? So RS4's are designed to make a clonking sound going over speed humps at more than 15mph? Mine doesn't.
Simon, is your car standard or SS+ suspension? I get it checked out. DRC pressure will not be done if within 'tolerance' however ideal pressure is 14 bar; your dealer won't do anything about if it is anything 11bar or over and that is some difference. Also check drop links and ARBs as the rear ARB has a tendency to loose its supporting cuff which means it may clunk around.

I've got this too, taken it back twice with this fault first time pressure was low at 4bg, repressuriesed to 16bg and was perfect.
Couple of weeks later clunk back over speed humps and certain large potholes, took it back pressure was 12bg and within limits, audi said theres nothing wrong but that clocking noise can't be right. I'm booked in again taking the master tech for a drive where I know it will do it.
It doesn't feel like DRC with sloppy handling, I wonder if the original low pressure has damaged the shocks.

Why are dealers so unhelpful - they just spout out the phrases that Audi UK legal team have taugth them to say. "It's a trait of the car sir - they all do it" Thank god I only bought this car second hand because if someone had told me that after spending over £ 50k on a new one, I would probably strangle them!!
Reality check.............if we in this country were not blighted by our governments infinate wisdom.....putting ugly lumps of tarmac in the middle of wot seems like everyroad in the country....we wouldnt even be havin this conversation......does the cars suspension make this noise under normal driving conditions for which it was designed.......NO....so stop moaning over nothin and enjoy the car.

Ok, I get this noise, and suprise suprise the car didn't use to make the noise.rsw wrote:Reality check.............if we in this country were not blighted by our governments infinate wisdom.....putting ugly lumps of tarmac in the middle of wot seems like everyroad in the country....we wouldnt even be havin this conversation......does the cars suspension make this noise under normal driving conditions for which it was designed.......NO....so stop moaning over nothin and enjoy the car.
SO AM I TO BELIEVE THAT THE CAR IS DESIGNED TO PRODUCE THE NOISE AT A CERTAIN MILEAGE OR LETS SAY AFTER A PARTICULARY HARD DRIVE?
Would it be correct to ignore this noise, even if the suspension fell apart after a couple of thousand miles of ignoring it?
Be a bit of a bugger if the warranty had expired by that time, wouldn't it.

With an answer like that - you must be an Audi employee..............now get back to your Polo TDI oil changersw wrote:Reality check.............if we in this country were not blighted by our governments infinate wisdom.....putting ugly lumps of tarmac in the middle of wot seems like everyroad in the country....we wouldnt even be havin this conversation......does the cars suspension make this noise under normal driving conditions for which it was designed.......NO....so stop moaning over nothin and enjoy the car.
And this is even more amusing - you join this forum on the 18th June 2009, and this is your first post on here the very next day and only 20 mins after rsw.baylissboy wrote:I'll second that!!rsw wrote:Reality check.............if we in this country were not blighted by our governments infinate wisdom.....putting ugly lumps of tarmac in the middle of wot seems like everyroad in the country....we wouldnt even be havin this conversation......does the cars suspension make this noise under normal driving conditions for which it was designed.......NO....so stop moaning over nothin and enjoy the car.
