Standard Airbox De-flap
Standard Airbox De-flap
Had a spare hour or so this evening and after browsing various forums, particularly US based, decided to have a go.
Bit of a ball-ache and a few bruised knuckles but, half an hour later, all done and working fine. No need to remove the front bumper and yes, you can reassemble with the 'horn' but there is a trick involved!
I removed the flap altogether but replaced the solenoid, actuator and vacuum line. The trick is merely to reassemble the solenoid and vacuum line and put it down behind the headlamp assembly, out of the way of the airbox. Drop the airbox down and then by feeling 'out' through the airbox into the horn, pull the horn onto the airbox until it clicks into place. Voila!
Off to the RR at Northallerton with Graeme this Saturday so we'll see what it's like.

RE: Standard Airbox De-flap
Have you noticed any benafits by doing this mod, WOULD you advise it as a worth while?
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
Airbox
Dunno - doesn't seem as if it can do any harm.
Anything that gets air into and out of the engine more efficiently should be a good idea. I already have done various things to aid this process and short of a Gruppe M or similar, this seems to be a sensible mod. Cost is free, unlike most things on an RS4!
Cannot discern any increase in induction noise, probably because of my exhaust overpowering everything else. Still, let's see on the dyno.

RE: Airbox
hey caldy, i did this mod on my car with a k&n drop i filter and i can def hear more noise(nice noise ha). could you share a little more information on your de-vaned inlet manifold. i have a new manifold on the way to get ported a little, curious about your mod
2007 rs4 mugello blue premium package, sirius, black optic grill, miltek non-res non-valved catback, milltek dp's, stasis/alcon clutch, bodymatched reflectors, tints, xenon interior bulbs, KW V3, 10mm h&r spacers, REVO flash, K&N drop in filter, euro steering wheel, jhm short throw,De-Flapped, ac glove mod, IMA multimedia adapter, h-sport sways, some alcantra on the way

Inlet vanes
Whilst polishing my inlet manifold, all I did was remove the tumble vanes from the shafts in the inlet manifold and the separator vanes in the top of the cylinder head. It was my understanding that these were to aid low down torque at start up and to control emissions. In my view, they were an interference to air flow which would limit power.

Got any pics of your car - I haven't seen a carbon bonnet on an RS yet!
RE: C/F Bonnet
that looks ace

Hi P_G, did you end up doing the RR and found any noticeable improvement with the airbox de-flap mod? Did you remove the air horn as well or just de-flap?
btw, your CF bonnet looks great. Mine is phantom black too and can do with one like yours. How much lighter is it compare to oem bonnet?
Thanks.
