the 944 is similar money, silver, original (0 mods) 65k miles
the e30, Red, nicely modded, ~20k, >100k miles, recent rebuild

the e30's are getting too pricey...and I would be concerned about keeping mileage off of the car...

the Turbo, I would get the 'mod bug' and don't want a money pit
although there are some pristine cars for $15k around...and a 2 seater would be a better hobby car...

the Alpina would be a nice weekend old school German hotrod, a euro equivilent of a Shelby or Yenko Camaro
pretty simple car, easy to maintain...
plus, it's been on the market for 6 months +, $$$ dropping each time listed...should be able to work a good deal
the only reservation...4 door, not much 'swoop' factor, not a real 'second car'

plus, when I started (or could afford to) get into fast German metal in the early 80's, the Alpina and Hartge really made me drool...

the only money I've put into the RS4 is depreciation...and mine should fare better than most since I paid mid 40's USD and got the extended Audi warranty to 6/100k...but I plan on keeping the car 5-6 years, it's the only way they make any economic sense (and not much then lol)
it's a depreciating commodity...

my mpg is 20, not bad, tires seem to be wearing at 15k miles/set or so, not great, but not horrible...
oil changes a bit pricy, $20 filters and 10 qts every 5k miles, but I do my own...

but heck, it's my indulgence that I can use every day...

I like the seats...once adjusted equally great when thrashing it or on a long trip...the best thing about the sport seats...lighter...but the Recaros are nice...

prefer a covered cubby to the cupholders, but don't care about the starter button (we have the sport button)

what's FBSW?

the only things I don't like euro vs US:
no sport+ suspension
the DOT reflectors...

I just took mine for a 30 mile mountain fun run...the thing is fast, real fast
3rd gear is sweet...~40 to 90...

got the brakes hot, a bit of fade, but no concern...
as hard as I pushed it oil never exceeded 220F (OA temp ~73F)
and I pulled some steep grades in 4th and 5th gear, and ran extended >5000 rpm in 3rd....

If I could have a couple of wishes:
push the engine back a couple of inches, get to 55/45 wt dist.
take 200 lbs off the car (mine has no sunroof or nav)

honestly, I'm very happy with the choice...0 buyers remorse...

I have a request, and will make it worth someones while:
I covet a euro rear bumper, from a dismantler would be fine...
guards red with rubber strip and the 2 mntg brackets...
pretty light, it's plastic iirc...

even phone numbers of a source would be welcomed

the US bumper looks like crap and ruins the lines...

There's a number of Parts finder websites in the UK where you just fill in the details of what you want and they send out enquires to all the breakers for you, who then e-mail you directly with prices etc. It's easy.
