I visited the Quattro GmbH last week and I saw an interesting test car. [img]images/graemlins/sekret.gif[/img]

It was an S4 B6 but with different front bumper (RS shape) and I could see the large intercoolers through it. It had huge front brakes and at the passanger side it was full of cables conected to a notebook. [img]images/graemlins/clap.gif[/img]

That definately meens that they are also testing a turbo engine for the next RS4 but in the S4 body not to receive much attention. [img]images/graemlins/sekret.gif[/img]

So I think there is still a small chance! [img]images/graemlins/thumbs.gif[/img]

I have a friend and business partner in Stuttgart, who has seen, and looked under the bonnet of an 4 class car with a twin turbo V8.

This was a fully stripped out vehicle, with many intercoolers and rads. Take from this what you will.

I have also been informed by people from these shores that there is enough space to fit twin turbos on the new S4. [img]images/graemlins/clap.gif[/img]

All we need to do is to prove to Audi that there is a market for such a thing. Although Audi do state that they do not have a manual gear box that will handle a twin turbo V8. [img]images/graemlins/29428-red4.gif[/img]

What gear box do they use, manual, semi-auto???

The main reason for not getting an RS6 was because it had an awful auto-box with paddle shift that would not hold gear. Although I have now been told that you can get a chip to fit to the auto box which makes it hold gear a little bit better. [img]images/graemlins/29428-red4.gif[/img]

I wonder what your business partner saw - 'many intercoolers', two yes, more????? most unlikely, unless they were for the gearbox, differential, etc.
As far as the gearbox is concerned, Audi DO have a suitable manual gearbox for a more powerful RS4, its the one out of the present RS4, it comfortably handles 600bhp.
For some time, Audi has been trying out additional radiators/intercoolers for use in extreme climates.
The US RS6 was originally designed to have additional coolers and radiators, but it proved to be too expensive, now America is a pauper nation (have you seen the exchange rate today).
So this may have been a climate testing car rather than a performance car, and yes the project may have input from the engineers in Weissach.

Spoke to my dealer today (Listers) and they also believe the next RS4 will be here in a year to 18 months. They have a facelift for the A4 range due in June '04 and after that the RS is the next range change/addition.

Twin turbo V8 would be rather nice and under £50k I would guess [img]images/graemlins/nodder.gif[/img]

When at Quattro we were told that if returned in a years' time we would see some "around".

As for the choice of engines we all made it absolutely plain what we, a bunch of die - hard RS4 enthusiasts were after (summit wiv turbos please, mister) and yeah VIP's though we are [img]images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img], our opinions will have extremely limited sway with Audi when it comes to the ultimate choice.

Its still up in the air, though a decision is imminent. I suspect that even the engineers will have their individual preferences. They are'nt made of stone, and I dont doubt that there will be some in - fighting about the choice right up to the last minute. I hope they get it right for us. They will have done their market research properly, and as long as they are'nt too blinkered and fixated on the USA (donig that ruins Ferraris, as well as Audis) then we could well be happy bunnies this side of the pond.

I attempted to put money down on a prospective future car and the dealer wouldn't take my money. They are maintaining a list, of which my name is at the top for when it is released [img]images/graemlins/thumbs.gif[/img] They do also phone every couple of months to let me know there is no news yet [img]images/graemlins/spineyes.gif[/img]
