URGENT HELP NEEDED - Intermittent Fault

Post by NICKH » Mon Jun 15, 2009 8:27 pm

All

I need help asap.

Sods law but a few days before I am due to take the RS4 to the Ring for a few days (this weekend) she has been struck by gremlins.

We thought we had cured it after removing the ECU for a full day and refitting it - no problems for 6 days but hey preto last Friday the problem came back.

The car has 106K miles and was in very good health. Running Milltek down pipes and 200 cell cats (only done 5K miles) but standard exhaust system (even resonated Milltek was far too loud). GIAC 450bhp map with panel filter and thats it. Has run sweet as a nut for last few months with excellent driveability.

For no apparent reason she started hesitating at 2,500 - 3,000 rpm when coming onto boost. Once past this she pulled OK but started to use more fuel.

Then after full throttle engine light would come on and car went into limp mode - no boost and no power.

Drive like a fairy for half an hour and the power and boost returned.

She had been like this for a week but was cured following us fitting new MAF and Map sensor. She ran sweet again but the problem has returned.

On inspection we have no boost leaks although the thermostat has started sticking (related?) but this will be rectified next month during a cam belt change.

VAGCOM comes up with:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Address 01: Engine
Control Module Part Number: 8D0 907 551 K
Component and/or Version: 2.7l V6/5VT G 0001
Software Coding: 10711
Work Shop Code: WSC 00618
Additional Info: WUAZZZ8DZ1N905401 AUZ7Z0A1796991
2 Faults Found:

17795 - Control Module Malfunction - Internal Altitude/Pressure Sensor
P1387 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

16490 - Manifold / Barometric Pressure Sensor (G71) / (F96): Implausible Signal
P0106 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

Readiness: 0000 0000

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are the same fault codes that showed before the new MAF and Map sensor but after 6 days of perfect running the codes return.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I don't want to take one of my other cars to the Ring but unless she is 100% fit the RS4 will have to stay at home.

Thanks.

Someone with a TT & GIAC chip seems to have same problem, could be a coincidence but read onto the 2nd page and it seems less likely..

Fault

Post by NICKH » Mon Jun 15, 2009 10:13 pm

Pretty sure that it is not the GIAC software as we have flashed dozens of cars (but no other B5 RS4) with the GIAC without issue.

Not sure what else to look for - very annoying.

FAULT

Post by NICKH » Tue Jun 16, 2009 7:39 am

We have not returned to standard and tested the car although we have reflashed the GIAC map but the problems still occur.

I will reflash the car wIth the standard map today and see what happens.

Does anyone know what the fault codes can be if we have fitted new MAF and Map sensor?

Cheers

FAULT

Post by NICKH » Tue Jun 16, 2009 10:58 am

Annoyingly the fault has gone away again.

We cleared the fault codes and did some VAGCOM logs this morning.

Full throttle to limiter in 2nd then 3rd gear without any problems.

Interestingly we did record 365 on the MAF which equates to 456.25bhp from only panel filter, Milltek downpipes with 200cel cats, standard exhaust system and GIAC map - this sounds like a good figure to me?.

We are checking all the boost and inlet hoses at the moment aswell as the wiring etc to the MAF and map sensor.

Fingers croosed.

FAULT

Post by NICKH » Wed Jun 17, 2009 10:40 am

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH

After 2 days of being back to rude health she has spat her dummy out again.

It must be down to the following fault:

17795 - Control Module Malfunction - Internal Altitude/Pressure Sensor
P1387 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

We have removed the ECU this morning and it is going to CAMCO for a full diagnostic check to see if there are any faults with the hardware.

Has anyone else suffered this fault code?

Cheers

More searches state that the ECM is shot and that could definitely affect the driving when cold and warm!

FAULT

Post by NICKH » Fri Jun 19, 2009 8:04 am

All

I chucked a new set of plugs in the car yesterday and 3 of the ones removed showed signs of blow through (gas escaping through the centre of the plug - they were burnt around the base of the ceramic above the metal socket area).

All wiring was belled out and found to be ok.

All faults now cleared via VAGCOM and she drove great last night.

Taking her to the ring later today but am takinf laptop and VAGCOM lead to be safe.

Thanks for the held guys.

Cheers

RS4 Fault

Post by NICKH » Mon Jun 22, 2009 11:07 am

Well just did 800+miles over the weekend in convoy to the ring and all ok with the car.

We took an E46 M3 to murder on the ring so the RS4 just did the road trip which in itself was mega.

The RS is now for sale as Nissan GB have confirmed delivery date for my new Nissan GTR so I will be taking that back to the ring next month.
