Spare Parts

Post by cwill » Wed Jun 10, 2009 10:29 pm

Hi there,

Now that RS2's are starting to become affordable to buy, does anyone have any idea on availability of spare parts to keep them going ?

Had considered a B5 RS4, but much prefer the looks of the RS2, even thogh a lot say the RS4 is the better car, but I am taking that with a pinch of salt. I just don't want to get into something that I can't keep onthe road due to something as basic as spare parts.

Also are there any after market companys making pattern parts

Thanks for you help.

Welcome to the forum Will. Good RS2s are still holding their prices... there has been a few right hand drive ones sell since the credit crunch for below the £10k mark but all the ones ive been aware of needed work or had `a history`. Some parts are no longer available from Audi but lots are and theres always a good supply of aftermarket parts and a ready supply of used spares if you know where to look. RS2 or RS4 mmm both very fast cars but very different in the way they operate...you need to go out and drive both cars to decide which is right for you
RS2 s yep ive had a few... it started with a Brilliant Black lhd then a Polar Silver and finally an RS Blau.

Thanks for the reply, good to hear that most parts are stil available, form reading the forum, one of the nig thing is tyres which there seems to be a replacement option for anyway .....

Think next step os to go out a drive them, although being based in Ireland, they are both few and far between, one of the real things I want to see is ride quality and how good/bad they would be to live with on a daily basis on the irish roads ...

Anyone been to Ireland in an RS2 and have any experience of the ride on our wonderful roads !!

Oh and your car you have for sale looks extremely nice, but for some reason I am set on a Blue one, although that may change when I try one and want one ASAP !

Try them both, but I find on Cornish roads (much like the Irish ones, small lumpy etc) the RS2 is much happier, the RS4 was a bit too fragile.
The only thing I miss about the RS4 is the ICE, but otherwise the 2 is a good motor and parts haven't been a problem so far.
Good luck with the search.
Cheers

Agreed the OEM ICE in the RS2 was not particularly good in it's day nevermind now. In 2003, I did a big upgrade swapping out the OEM units for the following :-
- MB Quart front speakers to replace OEM dash speakers.
- JL Audio rear component speakers to replace rear speakers.
- Alpine IVX C806 headunit with motorised display.
- Alpine 6DVD changer mounted in boot as per OEM changer.
- Alpine DVD NVE077PS sat nav with TMC unit.
- Alpine TV Tuner
- Ericsson Phone system
Soundwise the system compares well with modern systems and looked more or less OEM when the monitor was closed as all other components were stealth installed or used the OEM locations.

I have just recently replaced the main system units again for the following :

- Kenwood KVT524 touch screen headunit with CD/DVD

- Kenwood KNA-G421V sat nav with TMC
- Kenwood KCA_BT200 Bluetooth
- Kenwood KCA-iP301V Ipod interface.
The sound has again been improved and the Ipod integration is excellent with full touch screen operation and display of album artwork. As before, the system looks more or less OEM when the monitor is closed.

Thats handy to know scillyisles, I'm looking at playing with the system when I've done the exhaust manifold, tyres and my clients decide to pay for the work I've done for them.
I'm looking at the Becker head units, and maybe the same speakers as yourself.
Thanks for that.

Cheers, interesting about the RS2 being happier on the cornish (Which I would agree are similar to our roads over here) roads than the RS4. This would be a big thing for me, Thanks for the info on the ICE also as I am used to decent sounds in my other car, so I guess I need to factor this into the purchase cost, although somethign I can comfortably do myself so not too woried about it.

Yep the Becker headunits are very good and go with the OEM look. I have just got a Becker Cascade Pro which is going in my Mercedes cabriolet when I get the latest Ipod Interface adapter that Becker have just released.
The speakers I can recommend highly - both the MB Quart and JL Audio work very well in the OEM positions.

Scilly - what was the model number of the front speakers you purchased and have they stood the test of time well?

Thanks

The MB Quart speakers I purchased have stood the time very well and are still in the car going strong as are the rear JL Audio ones. Since the upgrade I did in 2003 to an Alpine headunit I have changed the system again and now have a Kenwood KVT524DVD headunit, Kenwood Sat Nav with Kenwood Bluetooth unit and Kenwood IPOD video/audi interface.
I think the MBQuart speaker I have is from the Discus range and is a 4" speaker - I might still have the specs in the garage. I don't think the sell Discus anymore.

OK, thanks, I've found some JL Audio TR525 CXi speakers for the rear and Focal 100 CA1 speakers for the front, hopefully these will do the job.

However, the ICE is slight less of a concern right now relative to the apparent loss of coolant the RS2 is suffering at the moment. It's not losing it all but keeps going back down below the minimum level after each drive, I'm remaining upbeat, praying that this isn't something serious, will check the hoses/clips tonight
