Rubbing brake pads

Post by bops4 » Sun Jun 14, 2009 2:49 pm

I have just replaced the front rotors 360 x 32mm and pads DS2500 today, the only concern is the drivers side was a bit tight on the disc and slightly rubbing when driving. I`m taking it very gentle hoping they loosen off, is this going to overheat new pads and glaze them or should i try something else?

Afraid not, the calipers are only couple of years old and i pushed all 6 pistons in with my fingers.

Have you bled the brakes?

not yet, was planning on doing that soon as overheated old brakes and had quite bad fade on the pedal.

An update with new problems. The pads stopped rubbing soon enough but now i have a couple of issues. Fisrtly when cruising at about 75 for no apparent reason i`m occasionally getting a vibration which feels like badly balanced wheels, if i slow slightly then build up speed again its gone. If i apply the brakes gently when this vibration is present i get quite bad judder on steering as if discs are warped. This judder is also present when just applying the brakes above 80 but not so bad. Also i`m getting judder when slowing down but only in the last few yards and braking softly. Does all this mean my new disc are knackered?

FWIW, these were the exact symptoms I had on my old BMW when I had a sticky caliper.

I know you say yours are quite new though... Is either wheel getting hot? (I mean too hot to touch hot - careful!)

While bedding in pads the drivers side wheel was quite hot but nothing different now.
