Found and S6, but not sure about the mileage!

I have found an S6 Avant with 120k on the clock.
Normally I wouldn't think twice about a car with that mileage, but i am not sure with these beasts. They are generally motorway cruisers, so in theory not stressed in the same way as a hot hatch.

How many of you S6 owners bought a high miler?
What should i be looking out for with expensive bits going wrong?
How many of you would buy one like this?

Glad you have found something about, these were rare beasts about 10 months ago when looking for mine - still grinning apart from my wallet but thats another story.

I saw several high milers around but opted to pay a premium for a lower mileage model with service history etc (not always what you think when something goes wrong). Like you say the chances of these engines being stressed all the time would be pretty rare unless the owners drove in tip mode all the time and still let the engine change up!

As always its buyer beware when getting a car and no matter what has been carried out on it before something somewhere will fail and unfortunately on these things it will cost (eg a4 you can get a timing belt kit, s6 each part ordered from audi! - thank god for the ind audi specialist I use).

As I mentioned my car had been serviced 10k before I got it until a stupid bit of plastic pipe broke between the oil cooler and engine block, so front off job, while they were there asked them to check over the timing belt, they felt the previous owner done a hack job and replaced only the belt and not the tensioners and other bits, my decision was to do it right, afterwards when setting the timing they found it was 1 tooth out. So for a £2.60 bit of plastic going left me with a bill of £1200.

Up off the floor are you That said I do not regret this at all I have confidence the belt is done and good for 30k not bad considering I only do 6k a year. Servicing is ok but oil etc adds up as I think it takes 8 litres, also had the gearbox oil changed.

Sorry meant to say petrol station, the S6 is not unreliable at all. At least I can get in it and not think about whether I can get to london and back, not like my old mondeo Heck I am driving the S6 to spa and back for the belgian gp I would not have considered that in most of the cars I have previuosly owned.

I brought my 2000 S6 in Jan this year with 118k on the clock, full Audi History and bits from Ind Audi Specialists.

I've had no problems apart from a squeeky powersteering pump, sorted out with a £115 full fluid flush and change, i've had no issues otherwise.

A lot of it is looking for the right car, I looked at 4, the 3 others had signs of not being as well cared for.

They are awesome cars and as said, be prepaired to become very good friends with the petrol station cashier!

You do see some S6's running with 225K on them (check ebay) I see if you can get access to vag-com and scan the car before you buy it. Also make sure the gearbox seems ok, Mine went after 3 months of ownership at a cost of £1840... There is only 83k on mine too. Also my oil cooler just leaked into the coolant system, car is away at the minute and had a full gearbox fluid change and new external oil cooler fittef, seems fine and caught it before it did any damage.
