New to S3 tuning

Hi im new to tuning S3's having just taken me baby to AMD and had a remap and dump valve fitted. It's made the world of diffrence but having sold me RS4 for the S3 it still don't compare. Im curious to were I go next for more power any input would be most gratefull. Ive looked on AMD website but 32k for a engine conversion is not in my league im afraid nor the wives.

Welcome.

Kim Collins does a bigger turbo/manifold upgrade taking the power to around 330bhp - have a look at http://www.qstuning.com/index.asp and also Jabba Sport do something similar.

Cheers Sita Have u had this done, and how would u compare Kim to the likes of AMD.
No disrespect to AMD but my S3 performance seems to die of quickly. I was'nt Impressed with the remap!!

No, I've not had the big turbo jobbie and I won't be doing this either.

both AMD and QST are good companies within VAG tuning - each one has their strengths/weaknesses. Personally I find QST more helpful/friendly (eg the phone is answered quickly and Kim takes his time to talk you through the process) but AMD is a larger/busier company and equally well respected.

I've had the AMD remap before and I too found that it ran out of steam too quickly - maybe not as quick as the MTM by all accounts.

I think there is someone on the UK TT forum who has had this done - try doing a search on there.

search the forums well (This, Tyresmoke and the TT forum) as you'll pick up a lot of knowledge in terms of what can/can't be done.

We have a revo tuned s3, and to be fair its really gud for just a re chip. power is consistant all the way to at least 6500rpm, yes there is a slight drop above 5500 but not major. its holding 20 psi to at least the 6500 rpm mark.
How ever to challange something like the performance of a rs4 you'll have a fair bit of a job.
Even if you use a bigger turbo like the ihi for example, the software available to support such a conversion isnt that great as these type of conversions arent really that common there has been no real developement work done for the software.
We recommend a re-chip ( our selfs REVO is preffered), a decent exhuast/ cat replacement, an uprated recirc ie forge, and the samco intake pipe.
Our own s3 is only revo equiped with the recirc valve and jetex stainless, we've run it along a quarter mile to get some idea of performance and its consistantly 13.9, with the sport cats or a bypass pipe and the samco intake i would expect this to be slightly quicker.
We are aware of a modified turbo compressor housing from the states, this with all the above mods (revo etc approx 270bhp) is claimed to add another 30 bhp or so, runnig injectors at limit. We will keep you posted! midland vw 01543 468101

Could I go for the Revo chip whilst still having the AMD remapp on me car? I have a Turbo dynamics recirc valve fitted and a Miltek cat back system.
So next is the intake hose.
Would you rekon I'll gain out by changing to bigger injectors and high lift cams, lightened balance the flywheel. Or is all that not nessassery?
Also what gains would I get from a roller bearing turbo.

If I were you, I'd get a downpipe and metal cat to mate upto your Milltek. This will require a tweak to the ECU code though. Next up would be a front mounted intercooler (FMIC) to keep intake temps down to a minimum. A chap called Simon Elman has changed his flyweel for a lightened version and it really changes the character of the engine - it revs so much quicker. Actually Simon is the man to talk to regarding mods for an S3, as no one else has done as much as him [img]images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] Here's a list of things he could remember which was posted to another site:-

It's on TSN in the A/S3 forum, a long running post about Wheel Choice, or something like that, near the top.

There's a "mesh" screen in the MAF housing that some people say restricts the intake, so they cut it out.

Just a word of advice from a proffesional: be careful not to get lured into pointless, expensive mods which dont actually make any gains and infact make the car worse!
And belive me theres lots and lots of so called performance mods out there that sound great cost a bomb and do naff all but ruin emissions, fuel consumption and create a car which idles lumpy, stalls, blah blah................... oh kind of like an rs turbo ( big difference between an old £900 escort and a £15.000+ s3 audi if you guys know what i mean).
Oh and picture this : your lovely panel filter/cone filter decides to collapse or tear, or even the stock airfilter tears and some nice chunks of foreign material pass by the filter like say a small stone, (belive me a whole matter of objects find their way into your engine bay, those of you with the stock air box take a peek under the filter and check the debris rattling around the bottom of the air box)this happy little road chipping then bounces up the intake pipe to the maf where its abruptly stoped by the mesh guard or is it? for some of you yes cause its still there, others may not be as lucky! This little road chipping in the worse case continues its journey until it meets a lovely impeller spinning at many thousand rpm and hops inside the turbo reeking havok and causing lots and lots of damage.
Like i say be very careful when considering your mods, unlike a £900 escort these modern audis can be very expensive to repair......... (the last chap we saw that had this type of miss fortune parted with a £1000 and he was lucky at that!)
