After 2 years of ownership of my first german, Audi and S3 car i am 95% happy with the car and 80% happy with the dealership`s service.
I first saw the S3 at a Motorshow and didnt even considered what it was and if i could own one..... at this time i wasnt too much into cars let alone S3`s.
I owned a 206 GT (bought at 19) for two years before the rattling got worse.... its had a few problems, i got bored of it and wanted to upgrade to a car with more power... looked at so many options but my age and driving period was against me..... and i had no insurance history.
I looked at many different models and even considered a custom built brabus smart priced at 15k > lol..... good job i came to my senses!
Eventually i came across sport-3 forums and decided to import a S3 via sport import.
At the times i was only 21 and was just getting all my plans ready and preying for insurance cover etc..... i turned 22 in August 2001 and at the time found a forum member who was in a rush to sell his car during a low period in the 2nd market..... he was going to sell to a dealership at the time...... i saw some pictures of the car and instantly fell in love with the combination of alloys and paint option. My Homepage I went down on the 25th of Dec 2001 to pick the car up wicked.
Im now 23 and it has been nearly 2 years since i bought my S3,i have had a few problems with my S3 regarding reliability issues but i felt that these were very small in relation to what type of car the S3 is.
The dealership have been ok but their pricing could be alittle more competitive sometimes
Ive covered 17,200miles and its running nicely...... there are still days when i sit in the drivers seat and glance at the S3 badge in the steeringwheel and think how did i manage owning and running a S3.
It hasnt been easy as im not really a high earner money-wise but its been well worth every penny.
The S3 feels surefooted at any speed, good a-b car, safe, good quality... the list is endless with very few niggles.
I definatley hope my next car will also be a Audi which far exceeds the rarity of the S3..... maybe RS3/4.
Many people say that Audi`s handle bad or there`s no feed back etc but personally i feel that on a day to day basis its up there! feed back is just a right balance between comfort and ride........ ive not driven a S3 with 17" alloys on but the 18" RSTT alloys with Michelin tyres are ace...... 5mm thread all round left on all tyres...... ok in the wet and good grip in the dry......
Ive had some fun in my S3........ ..... powersliding around a round-a-bout whilest drifing sidewards about 2 metres....
Im the type of driver who takes it easy around corners but guns it in straight lines.....
For me the best thing about the S3 is the way it makes my face look everytime i drive it.........
All prospect buyers....... go buy it.... trust me you wont regret it!

Re: Audi S3 after nearly 2years of ownership.
funny enough the S3 is my first German car too - beats my old Astra cough cough splutter!.
I'm now on my second S3, which has done over 28k miles in 17 months and no major probs.
TBH now the mileage is creeping up fast, and the stone chips increasing in density, i've been looking to replace her and whilst the competition is fast catching up now, there's just something about the thing that makes me wanna keep it!!

M3 CSL - Silver Grey, a few options.

Its the feeling...... proper q-car.... ok so theres the new Alfa out, Golf etc but there still something about the S3 which makes it still one of the top 3-dr hatch cars.... ok maybe not performance wise or handling etc but its good enough for me..... another few years then it`ll go to a new ownwer..... with a spotless exhaust and undamaged RSTT alloys there's just something about the thing that makes me wanna keep it!!
Yes at the time UK prices were high and 31k alot was of money for me and im glad i got the example i found.... especially as the owner was very desperate to sell quickly.... he was going to sell it to a dealer..... i offer £500 more in then end is became £400 more than what the dealer was paying.... my dads a market trader always drive a hard deal. almost walked away with no car at one point!

Hello there,
Riz S3 I'm very envious of you, only because you've got a S, lol. Anyhow, it's good to hear that you are enjoying the car and like you when u were 21 I'm looking for a S3 myself. Right now I'm 22 just graduated from uni and some percentage of my savings have to be used on an S3!
It's strange as I started posting on a VW Gti forum looking for some help on what car to buy. I was looking at a GTi Turbo, Audi A3Turbo, 4 motion and a RX7. Got told not to go near the RX7 as they are dear to run and had some good advice. A fella called racing teatray helped me out loads and pointed me in the direction of this forum and in the end wanting desiring a S3.
The thing is boys will always be boys and i've had the fun of ragging a R5 to putting the right foot down in cossies but in dire need of class and sophistication now. Hence me looking at audi's and the need to speed is where the S3 comes in. I won't be ragging it about as I will be using it as a daily car. just having the power under your right foot when you need it is standard. I started off only wanting to spend about 8/9k but after talking and researching the market I thought that I should aim for a S3 and that's what i'm doing now, saving the extra to buy my new toy soon. Also my uncle has an S4 and said I should have a go one day and F**k I thought that was nice and at the same time pretty rapid.
So what S3 did u get in the end and how much did u spend?I'm not sure for which one to go after, I don't want to spend anything more than 14k on the car itself and would like the a late 1999 version? with the milage under 60k, could that happen? Preferably in a darker colour, black or ming blue.
As i said i've just come out from uni and have done some travelling so I'm near the bottom of the food chain at work so money isn't a huge luxury just right now. I need something reliable and won't let me down at the wrong moment but really i think it's def worth saving for and having it.
Your advice seems sound as you post quite often on here, but i like the quote I can relate to.
'Im the type of driver who takes it easy around corners but guns it in straight lines.....'
sounds like me!
Thanks for the inspiration mate! i'll be doing this sooner that you know too!
