A couple of questions...
1) Has anybody had (or know of) their engine being decoked by Audi?
2) Is there the possisbility of Audi revoking your warranty if this work is completed by a third party?

1) Not yet, but I am working on it, booked in on the 22nd, to have the inlet manifold looked at - I have a cas open with Audi UK.
2) Thats what I am worried about - But I can't see why it would invalidate your warranty??

Was told that some one had there engine replaced under warrenty due to the carbon build up

A few have had them cleaned over in the us.
As for warrenty, as long as the garage is vat registered and use vag parts I don't see why not.

I also will be looking at having this done as soon as i get one,I do think its a bit much to pay for it yourself on a car thats only a few years old but will have to see what audis stance is on it,probably end up at mrc with a chequebook lol

Getting it cleaned is only a short term fix. Mine will be opened up in the next few weeks at MRC to see how dirty they have got after 2k. Fingers crossed we will have very good news shortly on how to put this to bed once and for all.

Any excuse to invalidate the warranty, I've seen a car's engine work done by an ex Audi mastertech set up on his own and because the franchise network didn't do the work the warranty was invalidated.

Agreed PG, this is one of the reasons why i decided to have the work done with MRC. I think the results proved there is a performance improvement in simply cleaning the manifold but on it's own it its pretty pointless as it will happen all over again.
While i hope Audi do investigate & act on this, personally i don't think they will. The second they do the work for one person, everyone else will want the same and i can't see them footing the bill.

Like I say watch this space! I am on the case with Audi as we speak. You should not have to buy a £55k car and then two years later pay to have it de-coked - Simple. I am going to have a rolling road before, and then pursue Audi to stip it all down, clean it etc, then have one after to prove the point. I really can't see what the argument is from their side. The car is coking up, and needs to be sorted ot regain its performance.
Did someone say that there have been some UK vehicles that have had this done under warranty? I'd like their chassis numbers or number plates, as this would help my cause.

I can only see the argument being that the coking is / not causing a significant decrease in performance over every other working parameter.
If you are using a r/r the conditions are going to have to be absolutely identical for them to be valid which will be hard to achieve. That means ambient temp, humidity, engine temp, gear box oil temp, tyre pressures, tread depth, everything.
I hope you can do it Oil for all of our sakes.

I'm sorry but if an engine is an air pump (which it roughly is), then reducing the amount of air ingested by the engine will always affect its work and energy produced. Please refer to the word 'significant'. It's like oil consumption where Audi state that anything over 1 litre every 500 miles is acceptable, that could be 500 miles or 10000 miles, both are 'acceptable'
I'm not advocating it doesn't have any difference, however if engine testing conditions are not identical pre and post coking then whatever cleaning you do, what is believed to be the resultant effect can be attributed to 'other' factors.
What do you believe the difference to be? 2-5% It could be lost in a number of other factors on a r/r and the only true test is to then have engine bench dyno tested. I doubt Audi will stump up for that and I don't know too many customers who can afford it.

PG, just for the argument's sake, I would be willing to get one of our B7 RS4 engines on an engine dyno and measure it the "right" way if those are the only numbers you believe. Another guy will only believe in 1/4mile numbers, I for one have to believe in another way of comparing power between different cars: street racing. When a stage 1 B5 RS4 puts 5 car lengths on almost any stock B7 RS4 from 60 to 120 mph, well, I'm sorry but I cannot believe that they produce the same BHP, even though we have dynoed dozens of B5 RS4s at 420 BHP with a stage 1, so you cannot really argue with those numbers claims, HOWEVER inaccurated chassis dynos may be.
Regarding oil consumption, you have to take into account that Audi do not want to pay for a new engine if someone uses 1 liter of oil every 700 miles, even though by my books, that sort of consumption would indicate a heavily worn engine, so don't try to be the devil's advocate please... plus, if I remember correctly, your car didn't even dyno 370 BHP stock, so why are you trying so hard to be the devil's advocate here and defend Audi on this issue?
