You can buy a fake and rip off Ross-Tech for their software, but it probably won't work, and is IMHO wrong
I don't mind taking the odd penny from the big boys, but Ross-Tech give outstanding support (including replies to this forum) so we should support them

If you want a cable that works every time so that you can get on with fixing your car and not have to waste time on fixing drivers, cables, etc then buy the genuine Ross-Tech cable.
Most third party cables, especially the USB ones, have either driver problems or work intermittently or only with very old versions of VAG-COM.

You will recoup most of your outlay if\when you sell your cable on, so look at it as an 'investment'.
