????Whining noise on boost????

Post by BigMo » Sun May 03, 2009 3:50 pm

Thought the car was a tad bit jumpy today. Wound the windows down and could hear a whining noise when on full boost. Turbo up the spout? Anyone?

Not sure Mo, When my box went tits up it whinned like a bugger and obviously got worse the harder you pushed her. Could be a pully or tensioner. Or it could be your turbos. I know what i would do mate. I wouldnt be taking a chance, i'd head back to MRC to get them to check it out just in case it is a potential terminal problem, and hopefully catch it before it does go mahoosive.

Before you go getting morbid about your box..... Get the chaps at MRC/whoever you use but believe its MRC, to do gearbox oil change serivce.

When I had my box changed by Audi under warranty, the numpties left all the bolts in the sump apn loose. I was losing oil all the while. Eventually the box started to slip and whine. Emergemcy trip to Grizzly and after tightening up the bolts and addeing 4 or 5 ltrs of ATF, the thing has been right as reign ever since...... Its worth a try.
If you are covered by a warranty and your box has not been changed, it may well be worth doing it anyhoo, but just remember to get MRC to do it, that way you wll get to keep your box map AND the job will be done properly. (as a rule Audi will change the TCU too)
If you don't normally use MRC for this type of work, I would go to them or Grizz, I know Grizz has done laods of warranty work and the warranty boys know and trust him. I am sur MRC are in a similar position tho.

Cheers Mooch

I'll drop by Doug's over the next couple of weeks. The problem is more prominent when using the loud pedal, under normal driving conditions seems ok. Cheers for the advice chaps.
