Help For Heroes Road Trip

Post by ecain63 » Wed Apr 29, 2009 8:59 pm

Nothing set in stone yet, but if i get some decent interest then you never know. I left the Royal Marines last Feb after serving 9 years inc tours in Sierra Leone, Iraq and Afghanistan so this charity is quite dear to me as it affects many close friends who have been injured on operations.

How many people would be up for an Audi S / R8 /RS road trip from Lands End to John O Groats? I solo-cycled it last year for the same charity (900 miles in 4 days 6 hrs) and found the roads to be be very good and well suited to the Audi marque. Didnt do my a*se any good to be honest.

Drivers wouldn't have to do the full distance if they didnt want to, instead you could meet up with the convoy along the route and join on for as long as you wish. Of course, if you did want to do the full journey then you would be more than welcome.

I havnt' set a date yet, but anytime that the majority of us could get together for a weekend would be fine. The plan would be to leave Lands End early on a friday / saturday, stopping off over night somewhere halfway, then doing the second leg the following day. If it turns out to be a bank holiday weekend then that would make it easier as it would give us a 3rd day to get home. As i said, its all just an idea at the mo.

Sponsorship is something that may be a bit tight with the current economic climate, but i did think to approach the major fuel suppliers. Seeing as BP / Shell have had stonking great profits this year it could be an idea to sponsor the trip with subsidised fuel for the cars embarking on the full distance. Maybe they will tell me to do-one, but its an idea. And its for a good cause.

Let me know what you think.

As Ex forces my self, it seems like a great idea, however, as you say sponsorship may be a bit tight, as all we are doing is driving, if we was Tabbing it, it may well be different, I still think its a good idea.

Tabbing it? (bloody army eh? lol)! Only joking. That may take a while ie. weeks. Good idea though. How many dedicated forum drivers have the fitness for that then? I did it last year on a pedal bike and it nearly killed me (almost record time to be honest but hard even at normal speed).
