Someone turned up to inspect my car this afternoon. I've no idea what company he came from as he had no ID and only gave me his name. Initially he turned up at home when the car was at my work 32 miles away. He came to find me though... I had been told he would phone to make an appointment before. Because I wasn't prepared I had no paperwork with me - he asked to see V5 and MOT. He did flick through the service book...

I had thought he might have come with a checklist that he would go through but there was no sign of one or any structure to the whole inspection. All he seemed to have was a small scrap of paper ripped from a notebook that became more and more full as he visually checked the car. I couldn't work out from what he was doing at the time, what he was then noting - by the end of the inspection the scrap of paper was completely full of scribbles!
:)

He advised me that as part of the inspection he had to drive the car with me as a passenger - "if that was OK". I didn't ask him what if I say no, didn't feel it would do my case any good! I did ask to see his insurance though - couldn't produce anything but said he was insured. :(

We then went on a short drive around the industrial estate where I work (he adjusted my seat! Argh!!). Like others commented he chatted (generally) the whole way through the drive; he also tried out all the electrical items, gave the steering wheel a shoogle from time to time; asked me if it was OK to try the kick down and took it up to around 50...

After the drive he was through the rest of the car, under the bonnet, through the interior and in the boot for around 10 - 15 minutes, leaving the engine running whilst doing so. I left him to it but watched him from the office as he went about his business but he did seem to repeat a lot of the inspection...

When he was finished I asked him what next and he said he would submit his report to WD tonight and then it was up to them if they took it on. I asked if him he'd found anything untoward. He said everything was as expected - "a car line with it's age and mileage" I think were his words.

So fingers crossed...

Mine has been checked over by Warranty Direct inspector's twice now. The first time when I originally took the policy out and the second time was when I renewed the policy after the first year.

Both times the inspectors were very thorough, they checked everything worked and looked through all paperwork and took various notes, they took paint depth readings, checked tyres & wear, under car, under bonnet, checked fluid levels, pretty much everything they could without a ramp. First time was at my home and we went for a drive, (with me driving nothing extreme just down the lanes), the guy said he had been out in an M3 the day before and the bloke had been ranting on to him how fast the M3 was, the inspector then just smiled and said "the bloke clearly didnt know what fast was!!", and I had only put my foot down once!

The second guy just commented that "it was one of the best ones he had seen", so he must have seen a few; he also knew about suspension issues with them, but as mine had already been replaced with KW's it wasnt a concern.

Passed the inspections both times with flying colours.

My car is currently up for sale and I pay Warrant Direct monthly. they have told me that the warranty is transfereble and can continue to be paid monthly for upto 3 years. So the new owner if they wanted to keep up the payments would be covered for about the 34 months remaining. I have only had a few minor claims with them -
temp sensor on engine
couple of parking sensors
track rod end
central locking module
and they have been great every time.......its paid for itself really and well worth the peace of mind.

I recently found an old email from where I got a Warranty Direct quote from about 10 months ago. It had a link in it to go 'direct' to my quote which took me right back in with my RS6 already selected. So I went through it, selected the remaining options/details and paid for it! Two days later they phoned me up to say they were refunding me because they no longer cover the RS6. Had I not been in a busy office at the time, I might have moaned a bit more, but I doubt I'd have changed their mind. Shame. So currently I'm thinking that Warranty Direct were reasonable, Audi Warranty was far too expensive, so I'm considering saving the money in my own 'insurance' pot and not having a warranty at all. Am I mad?

I know what you mean. I got 1 year main dealer Audi warranty with my recent purchase and negotiated an addtional all component warranty via Audi for another £875 which they told me was thier cost price.

Its nice to have, but I don't know if I would pay £1200 odd quid for it. That said, one reasonable claim and it wouls have paid for itself...

However somthing needs to go wrong. There must be a few RS6's that behave themselves. It was also depend if you have another car to use if your RS breaks.

Calum

my Car Care Plan warranty through Listers expired in mid April and I asked Audi (Stirling) for a quote when the car was in getting some other work done - they quoted me £1560 something which I was intitially prepared to pay (I'd had several times more value than that from the CCP warranty), but when I went back that evening to collect the car and hand over my dosh they said beacuse of the mileage of my car (59k) the cost would be £2700. I passed.

I now have a Warranty Direct warranty...

With the CCP warrranty the dealer just used to phone them during the day when the car was in and get approval over the phone - are you saying the WD warranty isn't working like that? Why the delay over approving a straighforward repair like that??

Malcolm

Thursday ,still no further forward, if work goes ahead W/D always wait for you to pay bill first then you send invoice and 2/3 weeks later get cheque..
I am sure on this forum before there have been owners that have had £1200 quotes from Audi , my car is only 34000 on the clock for a 03 plate. But also have seen others refused quotes from W/D , so god knows whats best.

guys,

I rang Warranty Direct yesterday and can confirm they're definitely not covering RS6s. I've just had my renewal through from Warrantywise and it's gone up from £375 to £580 with them keen to reiterate that this is the new Quentin Wilson policy, "A Warranty without weasel words" as they say! Apparently "ALL Mechanical & electrical Parts" are covered to a single claim limit of £5K.

Anyway apart from Tescos, not sure where else to go other than Audi?

£1240, at 20.04.09. If I read the docs correctly; Milage limit 15k in the year of the policy. Available for cars up to 100k miles, similar exclusions to the Audi used car warranty that dealers offer with cars. Warranty Direct and Warrantywise also quoted at dealer labour rates, £950 and £1050 respectively. WD has a sliding scale for cost of parts against milage so the Audi one looks attractive if you get it serviced at a dealer. I dont have a specialist close to home and the Audi dealer gives a discount on servicing for vehicles over 4 yrs age.
Hope this helps.

I had two different dealers quote me £1,565 for my car (Apr 2004 RS6 saloon, currenty on 58k miles) but when I came to buy was told it was £2,700 minimum. To get that I had to pay them to inspect the car and they warned me price could change after inspection (i.e. go up!)

Instead I went with Warranty Direct who honoured a quote I got last year...
