Pictures of RS6 turbos

Post by AlexJ » Mon Apr 27, 2009 1:01 pm

Has anyone got some reasonably high res pictures of the turbos off the RS6 and both sides as well (lh/rh).

Went to MRC a while back for a service a few weeks back and lucas and the lads there told me it may have small screw/bolt missing from the turbo housing on the left hand turbo which maybe causing a small boost leak.
My RS6 has a ABT remap back in 2003 and it according to vagcom when MRC plugged in i was running slightly lower boost.

My RS6 is back at my local stealers for a DRC regas (again) and there top cheese technician is being really helpful regarding wether the car has a boost leak or not. He has had his Snap On Optical camera in the engine bay but just can't get the right angle to see wether the threaded hole that was there needed had a small hole at the bottom

But i need a reasonable pic to prove wether there is the bolt is missing from the turbo as MRC were convinced that my car had had a turbo change at some point in its life, hopefully then the stealer will get the bolt for me!!!

Or can anyone confirm this or had the same issue???

Alex

Interesting, MRC found the same (I think?) problem with my car.

As I understand it, VAG.COM or similar reported a problem with throttle trims - I have the print out, but don't completely understand it.
A pressure test that confirmed it needed addressing - O/S turbo compressor housing.

Not covered by my aftermarket warranty as a pre-existing fault.

They did say to me they had put a bolt in another RS6 recently...

The bolt apparently is a barsteward to buy and to put in as well and it has no part number as it is sold as a complete turbo unit...

Did it make much difference to your car once it was done?

There is a bolt hole on the left hand turbo compressor housing that is not used.
It does look like there is a bolt missing but the hole does not go all the way in.

I've got 3 sets that are all the same..

Hmm ... I might need to go back to MRC then.

To be fair to MRC they did say it 'might be' to me, but they said it could have boost leak elsewhere..

There is 1 unused bolt holes on the drivers side and 2 unused bolt holes on the passenger side. There are also 2 pressure take off bolt holes, 1 in each compressor housing, 8mm x 1mm pitch. Since the RS6 only has one pressure take off line that is situated on the passenger side turbo the drivers side should have a bung.

I have loads on the RS6 to-do list ... just need to skip lunch for the next 5 years to secure sufficient funds...
