Signed. However, they could set the speed limit at 15mph and it wouldn't make me drive any slower.

I'm a speeder in the eyes of the law but by the laws of physics I'm obviously not, since everything is still in one piece and everyone is still alive. I dont care what the signs say; I'll make my own judgement using the most sophisticated and intelligent computer on the planet.

If there was some sort of disaster you can bet your life on the fact that the last thing I would do is follow instructions from our government.

Signed.

When are "they" going to understand that their present policies are KILLING people. Before speed cameras and the focus on speed limits the deathand injury rates were falling year-on-year despite trafiic levels increasing. If those policies had been carried on over 2,000 people who have been killed on the roads since cameras were introduced would be alive and with their familes today.

The craziest thing is that the research by TRL (which the Goverment have tried to suppress) shows that speed is a factor in only 5% of death or injury accidents, so it's about time they focussed on the cause of 95% of accidents instead. Principally that means making drivers aware of and able to assess risk, so that the accidents just won't happen in the first place.

The policies of these idiots have taken us from near the top (i.e. lowest deaths/injuries per vehicle mile) of the EU statistics to pretty well at the bottom.

I wrote to my MP about this and I would encourage everyone to take the time to do it. It's just another example of this government taking the easy route and penalising everyone. Speed is not the problem, it's the use of speed in the wrong circumstances.

Not quite on topic but I had to attend a 'speed choices' workshop back in January. Some of it was ok but I hate being lied to and these people stood there (including an ex copper) and told us as fact that stopping distances for todays cars at given speeds are the same as in the sixties, the ones that are STILL quoted in the highway code. The guys reasoning was that whilst we have ABS, discs in place of drums, far bigger and better tyres etc etc... cars are much heavier. As his example he used a Vauxhaul Corsa and a Ford Anglia (which he said two people could lift!!! Like to see that!). Now I am old enough to have owned not one but two Anglias, and I cannot take that seriously..there is absolutely no comparison. I think I saw a piece on TG once where they stopped a 3 series alongside an old car and it stopped in about a third of the distance stated in the highway code? The other thing they said was that you should drive in third gear at 30mph and that it will be more economical and less poluting as the engine will run hotter etc etc...unbelievable! Most of the people just sat there nodding dumbly, and have probably passed all this cr*p on to everyone they know.

I had to go on one of those back in 2005 - seems they are still talking the same old cr*p!

We had to listen to an hour of drivel just like you describe. then do a video hazard awareness test - which we all passed easily - then we had a 2 hour driving assessment in a Suzuki Wagon R+. That was so stupid it almost beggars belief.

Bear in mind all the guys on the course I was on were there as an alternative to 6 points and a "chat" with the magistrates and the car park was full of Audis, Porsches, TVRs, Ferraris, etc. The "instructor" insisted that we MUST be in 3rd gear in a 30mph limit so that we could "keep up with the traffic" when we needed to accelerate, we just could not get him to understand that 3rd might be the correct gear for the Wagon R+ but for the cars we drove it was an insanely low gear (if we sneezed by the time our eyes re-opened we'd be doing way over 30, and we could easily "keep up with the traffic" in 4th, 5th or even 6th!).

The guys that run these courses have NO IDEA of the capabilities of modern cars.
