apologies, that’s a combination of man flu, lack of sleep and 8 hours on the phone yesterday - I love my job
Paramount not Paragon - although the Mrs would like the windows tinted, but that’s for another day/thread.

Jim - I thought the dyno figures were all corrected back to standard?
Is what we were seeing, "corrected" or "uncorrected" because this would remove all the environmental variables as an excuse...

Just signed up to this forum-looking to upgrade to an rs4 from an e46 m3. Cant believe these figures. I dont think i can justify spending 35k on a car if it is nearly 100bhp down on power? Are these figures for real?? Are they at the wheel figures??Dom81 wrote:Pippyrips – 416.3

You need to read the threads all about how wheel dynos are only an ESTIMATE of crank HP, and that runs on a drag strip suggest that most RS4's ARE developing the claimed engine HP before jumping to conclusions.james_algar wrote:Are these figures for real?? Are they at the wheel figures??
ArthurPE's posts are worth reading IMHO.
Also note that the top two cars in that list are modded and the bottom ones have known fault codes.

ok, but surely the difference in numbers from 311hp to 386hp suggest that when buying an rs4 its a bit of a lottery as to how naughty your engine is going to be?? I cant believe the figures would be so low as the old s4 was 340 odd hp wasnt it- maybe they dont like being stuck on the dyno or something...PetrolDave wrote:You need to read the threads all about how wheel dynos are only an ESTIMATE of crank HP, and that runs on a drag strip suggest that most RS4's ARE developing the claimed engine HP before jumping to conclusions.james_algar wrote:Are these figures for real?? First thing's first I bought my car not knowing any of the above. I came from a E46 M3 and trust me the arse dyno will blow you away! have no doubt this car is far far better than the old M3, having driven a New M3 INMO it's also better than that too. the 340bhp S4 you refere to would also underproduce on this dyno so no point in making any comparissons with manufactures published figures. Bottom line is don't let any of this put you off buying an RS4. It is one of the best all round cars money can buy and I for one wouldn't change mine for anything else in it's category on the road right now.james_algar wrote:ok, but surely the difference in numbers from 311hp to 386hp suggest that when buying an rs4 its a bit of a lottery as to how naughty your engine is going to be?? Be sure to go drive the car and see how it compares to your M3. I wouldn't worry about the Dyno figures in this thread, fact is if we did a drag race between all 22 cars that ran on this day there probably wouldnt be much in it, but trust me you would be at the back in your M3.
It's a brilliant car with so much to offer don't let silly things get in the way of your deccision, trust me people who spend £180,000 on Ferrari's have plenty more problems than we do.
The most inportant thing to do is get a long test drive not half an hour half a day. By the end of it you will have a big smile on your face as did everyone who drove home on Saturday regardless of the figures.
regards
Jim

thanks for taking the time to reply Jim. Think i need to take one for a spin first to see if it feels much quicker, i guess i should have done that already before looking at dyno numbers on here and passing judgement... the rs4 seems the natural progression for me as i need 4 doors now. I think m3's make 330-340hp so would there be much difference in a straight line real world?
Ha ha, just in front of my car at the moment, but that will all be sorted tomorrowrAudiguy wrote: Be sure to go drive the car and see how it compares to your M3.
