New S4

Post by bienvenum » Sat Nov 01, 2003 4:15 pm

As the only thing I like about the new V8 S4 was the seats, does anyone know if the front and back seats would fit in my 99 B5 ? and would all the electric adjuestments still work ???

for what its worth, thought he new S4 didnt handle, lacked the excitement of mine, and dare I say it, felt slow.

Those seats were really nice tho !

Agree with you - the car is too nose heavy, and would compromise real spirited driving.

The Recaros were an option on the B5 S4 , but standard on the S3, S6, S8, RS4, RS6 etc...

IIRC the 4.2V8 in the new S4 is actually quite a bit lighter than the old 2.7T unit so the car should actually be less nose heavy.

They were standard on imported S4s. Did I ever mention before that imported S4s were £9K cheaper than UK ones as well?

No, I think you'll find that the statement made was that despite being a V8, it's mass was no more than the 2.7T. Overall the B6 S4 is still heavier than the equivalent B5 S4.

Are the recaro's the same across the various ranges? ie would S3 recaro's plug straight in? - I've got a 98 S4 & was wondering if the electric recaro's from say an S3 would be a straight swap.. anyone confirm?

Cheers,

The Recaros fitted to the S3 have a different sub-frame to those in the S4 (or S6/S8).

Your choices are RS4 or S4 Recaros 2nd hand (as common as Rocking Horse poo), New OEM S4 Recaros from Recaro or Recaro Styles from Recaro direct. Cost for the New Recaro options are £2.5K for a pair of OEM in Leather or £1.8K for a pair of Recaro Styles in cloth. The differences between the OEM Recaros and the Styles are that the OEM have side airbags and the sub-frame is welded to the seat, whereas the Style can be ordered with Side Airbags and the comfort pack and can be moved to another vehicle which a different sub-frame. Occasionally you'll find a set of Styles on ebay.de which may be worth a go.

I ended up buying one Recaro Style (with comfort pack)in cloth for £900 including the mounting kit.

Cheers Jeff, Hmmm after a scout around on e-bay I figured it would be worth swapping the fronts if it came to around £3-400 more than that & it's not worth it IMHO - though TT recaro slotted buckets would be nice

Mine cost half that from Recaro UK. Either they got the price wrong or there's been a hell of a mark-up over the last 2 years!

They have always been 1K seats and if you add the leather at £300ish your talking 2.6K.....I don't know how you got yours so cheap but the cost hasn't gone up since the Style was launched. R

Jeff is right.

From day one. I've found the standard S4 (B5) seats far t wide for my medium build and looked into replacing. Always well over £1K each.

Yeah - sorry guys. I checked thru my receipts and they were £1160 each for Audi SAB (with electrics & heaters) in onyx leather.

Worth every penny

As a PS, the 4.2's centre of gravity is further over the front axle giving the impression of a heavier car when compared to the 2.7T.

Regarding leather and recaros. If you can find a used set of suitable recaros, a half decent re-trimmer would re-trim front and back for around 1K mark
