Brake fluid change

Post by Jezzer » Wed Sep 17, 2008 8:32 pm

Some confusion at dealership. They are not sure if Brake fluid needs to be changed after two years and the same thereafter or after three years and then every two years thereafter. Anyone know which is correct?

Might be an idea to check with dealership again as mine says they think it is wrong on the system and should be after three years for the RS. Anyone else have any idea?

I would be inclined to do it sooner on an RS model!

And I would definitely say every 2 years.

To me it feels like it needs to be changed - wouldn't fancy going for another year with the current fluid.

Had mine done recently as dealer advised it was recommended to be completed every 2 years. They also serviced the air-con.

Best price for a fluid change?

Local Audi dealer wants £90.75.

Anyone beat that?

Gents, you'll find the new Audi service scheme which was revised resently says the *first* brake fluid service is done after 3 years then every 2 years after that. The new service scheme mainly affects the model year 8 onward A3s and TTs so far. On these cars there are 2 service lights to reset now - they've made a pretty simple system quite complicated IMHO.

HTHs.

DOT5 and do it yourself. It is most satisfying to see the old brake fluid turn from yellow to clear as the new stuff comes through.

There have been some reports that DOT5.1 hampers the ABS optimisation. I personalyl haven't seen it but it has been reported.

If you want better brake feel best get braided lines. It's the future.
