indicator problem

Post by fletchie55 » Wed Apr 08, 2009 11:08 pm

A while ago my front driver side indicator stopped working, I bought some replacement bulbs to change it, but the damn thing started working again when I got back in!

A couple of days ago, the problem came back then went again, then the front passenger side stopped working and then started working again, now neither of my front indicators seem to be working! (they will probably be ok again next time I start the car!)

I am guessing it might be something to do with the flasher/relay unit, has anyone else had this intermittent type fault, and was this the cause?

Also, why would it be just the fronts that stop working?
Any suggestions would be really helpful!

Stupid thing's ok again today! I wish it would make its mind up and either break completely or keep working!
How long do the bulb holders take to change on the facelift model?

Just FYI the flasher relay is part of the hazard light switch, and again a common faliure on the B5 models.

Is changing the flasher relay a big job? It doesnt look like the dash is designed to come apart without breaking! I think I will go for this option first, anyone know where to get one? At times like this I wish VAGparts was still around.

You can get it from your dealer or PM me and I can sort it out for you

You need to pull off the trim surrounding the cup holder, hazard switch, etc. Be very careful, as the clips on this are very fragile

And then again you need to prise out the hazard switch. This has 2 metal tabs on either side. Might be an idea to get a new one, and then you can see what your playing against!
