Audi S6 Avant (2001) System Too Lean

Post by pdpaxm » Wed Sep 24, 2008 4:04 pm

Hi,

I have just had my S6 serviced and also Cam Belt changed as done nearly 80k.

After this I keep getting the engine warning light come on, I plug in VAG-COM and it says:

17538 - Fuel Trim: Bank 2 (Mult): System too Lean
P1130 - 35-00 - -
17536 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Mult): System too Lean
P1128 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

I then reset the code, it runs for 2-7 days fine then this pops up again.

any ideas on what might be causing this?

Thanks

Andy

I had this problem with my 1.8T bora, it would through a light on the dash and come back every couple of days. It turned out to be a split vacumn hose, not sure if anything is runnig under pressure on the S6, but worth a look around for hissing noises from the engine. Extra air getter in somwhere into the intake etc..

Hello,

I know this has been on here a while and hope the problem has now been solved. Just had the exact same prob with mine and it was both the vacuum pipes with slight likes and cost £120 at my local none francised Audi specialist, so it wan't two bad.

It also put my MPG down to 18 rather than 24 so I'm so glad it's up again.

I also had a similar problem on my old Golf. Was perfect before the cambelt change, but afterwards would get the message 'Engine Workshop' on the dash and a hissing sound. Turned out one of the hoses was completely missing!! But still I would get it from time to time after that, so perhaps another hose was either missing or not secured properly! Suffice to say I was feckin pissed with the garage that did the work!

I'm just at that stage now where my cambelt needs doing on the RS6 so I am understandably apprehensive about where I get it done. Since I've heard nothing but good praise for the likes of MRC and Unit20, will most likely use one of those.

From what I've read, 'Too Lean' conditions, arenormally a vacuum hose split or disconnected somewhere.
